Christmas Eve afternoon at Halifax Minster is wonderful. Christingle Services are held, this year there were 3, and children are invited to join in as shepherds, angels, kings etc. The story of Christmas is narrated clearly and Christmas Carols are sung as well. This year over the 3 services over 2000 people went home happy to have celebrated the Christmas... More

Halifax Minster is no stunner like York, Ely or Liverpool all worth a visit . It's tired and uninspiring. Lots of C of E buildings in West Yorkshire are the same as this. Attendance no doubt is low and begging boxes are also a feature. Huge churches like this must cost a fortune to heat and maintain. Once supported by... More

Plenty to look at in this splendid church, upgraded to a Minster in the last decade or so. The exterior of the building is well worth studying, as there are some splendid gargoyles. But the fabulous timbering inside the Minster is what, particularly, characterises this place. The roof and the complete and elaborate, gated pews are listed and rare. Try... More

This small minster is well worth visiting (no Charge) and is loaded with Memorials and history. Helpful volunteers will Show you around (without the "heavy sell"!) and you can buy tea or coffee, to drink inside the minster.

We took a day out from our weekend in Manchester to go to Halifax. The Minster was of course one of the things to see and do according to the tourist information. And it was really lovely! Small in size, but big in atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly man who gave us a sheet with a route to... More

My wife & I attend a Sunday Eucharist service at the Halifax Minster on 27 Sep 15. It was a service featuring young musicians from the Rishworth School. Additionally, the Bishop of Bolton was the guest celebrant. It was a wonderful service with outstanding musical offerings. It is fascinating for us (visitors from the US) to consider that people have... More

We weren't planning on visiting the Minster but noticed it was open so went in. They had a great flier which gave some really interesting information and points of interest to look out for. There was a small shop and cafe but we didn't visit them.

Its not massive, its not highlighted much BUT it is a wonderful piece of history. Standing proud and defiant in its Yorkshire stone ,black from age ,it is a sunstantial minster. You can feel the years roll away and find yourself transported back to a bygone age. There is a side door made of thick solid wood that looks as old... More
