This beautiful building is the largest of the few remaining cloth halls in Britain and was saved from demolition in the 70's by one vote (thank God someone had sense). Over three floors (there is a lift) there are numerous individual units which, until last year, housed many independent shops. The enclosed square, part grass/ part cobbles, was the venue... More

I visited the Piece Hall with some enthusiasm as I now live in Halifax and visited it as a teenager many years ago. What a shame it's now only a shadow of it's former glory. Don't get me wrong, the history of it is still there, the place is clean and well kept with a small market taking place within,... More

I am Halifax born and bred although moved away thru work a while ago. Always love popping back into the piece hall for nostalgia. However.....it is not the place it once was. I have fond memories of spending the Saturdays of my youth in Halifax (late 80's). We always spent time in the piece hall. All the little shops on... More

In its heyday it probably served its purpose well but today it is too cramped for any business operation to thrive, it has as much use now as stonehenge has, which probable accounts for it being shut as the council ponders its future

I don't understand some of these reviews. In May 2014 the place was shut completely in preparation for a major restoration and I was very disappointed not to be able to enter. I was told by someone living opposite one of the entrances that it had been closed for some while. I could only photograph the exterior which was worth... More

It's an interesting place; has arty shops, albeit pricy, but it is a good space to use for events; attended the food and drink festival there in 2013...it doesn't appear to be used to host events a great deal, but I could be wrong. Perfect if you want to shop for unique gifts

This is a real gem in Halifax; the architecture is really impressive and is testament to the importance of the wool trade in the past. Well worth a visit; the staff in the visitor centre were really helpful and knew so much.

i really enjoyed the ground level cafe and the friendly staff. the building its self is a fantastic structure and should be made better use of. most shops are empty and there is no longer a market. i understand some major refurbishment is under way so hopeful new life will be driving into the place for a more positive future.
