Taking children on a steam train on a misty, chilly winters day is a super experience to see the wonder into their eyes. A great day out. Thank you!

We were very excited to take our 3 year old and when we got to the station, things started well but went downhill as soon as the train began to move. Santa made a very brief visit and we spent most of our time stationery and bored. The deluxe was nothing of the sort. We got half a cup of... More

Thank you GCR for making a most enjoyable morning on the Santa Special Steam Train. Brought our grandson with his his parents ( it is a special childhood memory of his Mummy) to discover it is as good as ever. Well organised, lovely presents, great Santa and brilliant helpers. A Christmas tradition that will continue.

The Great Central Railway is the only preserved standard gauge double-tracked main line railway in the UK. It is part of the last main line railway to be built in Britain. The original Great Central Railway was opened in 1899 and ran from Manchester, via Sheffield and Nottingham to London. The intention was to operate via a Channel Tunnel to... More

We had a lovely ride with the stream train. The lads were excited and so was I. Best trip for grandpa and grandchildren.

I took my son (age 5), wife and father-in-law on the Santa Deluxe train as a special treat. Have come home very disappointed - we spent more time stationary on the train than we did moving, Santa did come through the train on both outbound and inbound journey - but it was very quick and not extended as advertised (he... Took my grandson and family on the Santa Trip. The station is beautiful and was decked out with decorations, lovely Christmassy stalls. On the train we were served Mince pies, sherry, fresh orange for the adults, juice and cookie for the children. Entertainment provided by Mrs Christmas and a clown. Quality presents handed out by Father Christmas who then made... More

This is the second time we have been on the Christmas Jubilee trip on a GCR steam train and it's fast becoming a new tradition despite some negatives. Parking is not ideal at Loughborough. It's on street parking and when there are several services operating it's not easy to find a space. The station itself is well presented and very... More

We had a wonderful day out, great value, lovely presents and friendly volunteers and of course Santa made this a great family trip out with Santa. We chose to go on the trip where Santa came on the train. We made this choice because one of our party uses a wheelchair or crutches so once on the train we didn't... More

My husband and I have just returned from having Christmas Lunch on board a steam train and it was an excellent day out. The staff were very obliging and the meal was very good. We were in a party of about 30 people and everyone enjoyed the experience. We will go again next year and ask other friends to go... More
