I took my wheelchair bound mother for one afternoon in April 2015 and it was lovely. We were lucky with the weather and the fact it was quiet. Another reviewer complained about the house tour ticket being issued with a set time, but we asked if we could have a later one so as not to have to rush there... More

I have visited lots of historic houses and am used to seeing imposing architecture surrounded by manicured gardens, but what has left an impression on me on my recent visit to Somerleyton Hall is the utter prettiness of the house; it has the feel of a real family home, and its art and photograph collection are witness to the real... This privately owned house and gardens is a tale of two halves – interesting gardens with a great maze and a poorly presented house. Let’s start with the arrival – after driving down a long road on the estate and passing the front of the house (which you can’t stop to photograph) you arrive at a spacious free car park.... More

We only visited the gardens, so cannot comment on the house. The gardens (and the historic glasshouses) were interesting, with many huge, mature trees. The café provided good refreshments at a fair price. Children seemed well catered for, in the play area and the maze.

They were very busy but were able to fit us in, in the conservatory, which was warm and cosy if a little close to the toilets. The starter was the best squid we had tasted for a long time accompanied with warm bread and an oil dip. Mains were fishcakes and I had an enormous portion of excellent fish and... More

Have visited Somerleyton Hall three times now and have never been disappointed. The gardens are always beautifully maintained and the areas of the house that are open to the public are made more interesting by friendly and knowledgeable guides. It is important to remember that this is a family home and I find it somewhat amusing that certain people who... More

For a time lazy venture visit to the hall and guided tour by two knowledgeable ladies, the tour between them was very interesting and worth the time spent. Having completed the hall tour you then have the 17th century gardens and maze to explore. To conclude, visit the restaurant and have a tea and a coffee with carrot and stem... More

Well worth paying the extra to see the hall. Not many rooms to see but the guides talk through the history of the hall and the families that have owned it. The gardens weren't,t yet at their best as it is still spring but I can imagine on a lovely sunny summer day they would be beautiful. I am sure... More
