The castle is situated in a prime position that gives you amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The comprehensive audio tour covers the history of all areas of the castle and highlights some of its unique aspects such as the fact that it contains one of the most complete sets of domestic buildings in a castle in England. I found... More

Visited here here on a rather cold and wet day but enjoyed the audio tour which explained everything about the castle and it's past. Would recommend that you wear appropriate footwear as there are plenty of uneven surface. Will return here again maybe when it's a little warmer.

We loved our visit to this old castle. We explored the moat, and climbed the spiral staircase to the top go the keep. Only scared it was the shooters seemed very close- found a dead pheasant on the path on the way back to the shop. Good tearoom

The visitor centre is nice but a bit pricy. The ticket is cheap, we joint as members as the benefits once explained, it made sense to e.g. Kids get in free with members. There is plenty to explore at the castle, the view from the main tower is breath taking. If you take 'active kids' make sure you keep an... More

Ruined of course but with sufficient remaining structures to allow the imagination to take over. The castle enjoys a dramatic position overlooking the Wye valley and surrounding countryside and encourages much photography. OK for children if closely supervised and although the climb to the top of the Tower isn't for youngsters (or dogs as we encountered), it is well worth... More

You will be unlucky if you miss this castle. It's historic and dramatic. Look out for the Millennium window and the memorial window to those who died developing radar in WW2. You will need 2 hours to do a reasonable visit. Nice cafe and visitors centre.at the car park. The only toilets are in the visitors centre which is 400... More

We were needing to waste some time on Sunday so drove out of the hotel and headed down the A40. Stumbled across this old castle ruin and have to say it was quite relaxing just having a potter on a bright sunny Sunday morning. Interesting but only down side was the heavy sale that EH always do when all you... More
