this little museum is a font of historical information and artifacts that have been found in the surrounding caves and hills. The attendant staff are well versed and knowledgable - well worth the visit.

There are art galleries on ground and first floors with regularly refreshed exhibitions - often on a Derbyshire theme. The permanent museum room on the ground floor won't excite many - though the video loop on aspects of Buxton history in the corridor is interesting. For most visitors the main attraction is the permanent display on the 1st floor which... More

Enjoyed this option on a wet and miserable Bank Holiday Monday. Our first choice,The Dome, was closed and we thought we would spent a 1/2 hour here. Two hours later we emerged, very impressed with the history of Buxton and Peak District from neolithic to modern times and an impressive local art exhibition. Beautiful Art Nouveau glass in the lobby... More

Set near to the Town hall, this is a lovely free museum. There is a mixture of art and artefacts. My young boys enjoyed dressing as Romans and following a trail. You could easily wile away an hour here.

On the way to Buxton from London we stopped at an Inn called BULL I'TH'THORN which was built 10 Century ago. Pub food was good , portion very large and price reasonably . My husband and I stayed in a hotel called THE OLD HaLL . Queen Mary of Scotland stayed here when she visited Buxton in the 16 Century... More

Great little museum in the heart of Buxton. Lots to capture the imagination if children. They particularly loved dressing up as Romans, using the microscopes to study items, building the bone skeleton and finding the bear in the cave.

This is a great little museum and art gallery in the middle of town so no excuse for not popping in on your way to the park. Lots of interesting local finds on display clearly linked to the development of the town especially from pre-history and the Roman occupation. Very child friendly. Helpful staff(thanks Ben) and a small shop to... More

Popped into Buxton museum on a trip back to see the folks. Great paintings! Staff were really helpful, particularly the tall, skinny chap who looks like he is in Scooby Doo or Doctor Who or combination thereof; very handsome man!

Small but well thought out, this museum is free to enter and worth climbing the hill for! Plenty of exhibits. Keep you busy for a couple of hours.
