We were having a wander round Huddersfield and came to the Art Gallery so decided to have a look in. There were some very nice paintings and some we wouldn’t have on our walls if given to us! There were a couple of Lowry paintings and also various sculptures, one by Henry Moore. There was an exhibition called Red Women’s... More

For a small gallery this has a good range of paintings, an interesting 'crafts for sale' section and often there's a good exhibition. You can also sit and have a hot drink now on comfy sofas just outside the gallery. You have to make your own with the machine but it's priced accordingly.

The combined library and art gallery is superb stripped classical architecture with stylish statues and friezes outside and beautiful marble staircase and original doors etc inside. The art is surprisingly good with nationally known artists (including Henry Moore), well displayed, and a lovely little shop selling unique gifts many derived from the pictures. One of my favourite Huddersfield places. Went... More

We enjoyed a visit here and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the art in the collection, with a number of nationally important artists and their work on display. The LS Lowery's, Lucien Freud and John Martin all stood out. In addition the temporary exhibition of photographs was equally diverting and of a high standard. The building itself is... More

With so much of Huddersfield town centre dominated by austere, functional buildings, in common with many other northern towns and cities remodelled in the 1960's and 1970's, its architecture is not generally inspiring. However, during my first, very brief visit to Huddersfield many years ago, I recall being very impressed by the Library and Art Gallery, which reminds me of... More

There has been a very long time between visits but I see very little difference in the exhibits, still got the lousey Lowrys, and the Henry Moore Fallen Warrier lump, whatever you do, do not visit the toilets, absolutely disgusting, for a Town center prestigious building the powers that be should hang there heads in shame

Take a break from your shopping and visit the Art Gallery. There are a couple of L.S.Lowrie's (at the time of writing) and the exhibition changes fairly regularly. I particularly like it when the amateur artists sell their paintings.

This is a perfect place to visit and to catch up on the Huddersfield events and the gallery is also very good. I saw that there were 2 Lowries on display. Also it has lots of interesting artists . They also have local groups, photographic as well as amateur painting exhibitions. The Library is also very up to date and... More
