Great day out my son absolutely loved it here. Thought the activity would perhaps just be a quick train ride but there's plenty to do. The ride itself lasts a good 20-25 minutes between Clayton West and Shelley station lots to see along the way and beautiful countryside. Plenty of walks nearby and on the way. Lovely tea rooms at... Visited for the first time today and, what we thought would be an hours activity, turned into us dragging our 4 and 2 year old away after 4 hours! £26 for a full day is quite acceptable at todays prices. We caught the first train and expected to stay at Shelley for 15 minutes before returning on it. However, by... More

We came here on a promotion for York residents: strange as it's in Huddersfield. Anyway, we had our free tickets and arrived in time for a day out on the railway. We decided to have lunch first and ordered food at the restaurant in Clayton West station. It was delicious and quite inexpensive. We were then given a quiz for... More

Great day out with the family, especially if you bring your own picnic. At Christmas, be brave and start a sing song on your way to see Santa - or if you happen to be on the same carriage as me... Join in will ya!

This is a really fun place run by real enthusiasts who love their work. It has some great facilities for kids aged 8 and under. The train ride is great as is the cafe. There are things to play on round every corner. Love it :)

Visited Kirklees Light Railway today and was very impressed with the facilities to say it was run by enthusiast's. Only negative I could find it that at the Shelly station staff were in the process of packing tress etc away and we felt as though we were in the way. Overall we would recommend KLR to everybody however to make... More

We like it here- run by enthusiasts, and lots to see. The railway ride to Shelley is really nice. Only thing we don't like is the cost- it is really expensive for 2 adults and 3 children, especially on Thomas the Tank days.

Thank you for your review, we are happy to see you enjoy visiting the railway. With regards to your comment about the cost of visiting, our prices for standard days have remained the same from 2010 to 2014 with no price increase. In 2012 we took the decision to make all of our standard ticket fares into "Ride all Day"... More

I have to agree with the other recent posts. The Santa Specials are really well organised, an enjoyable day out for young and old alike.

Well worth the money, my children's faces was magical. You spend 25 minutes on train upto Santas grotto then around an hour there, playing with elfs and seeing Santa. It's then another 25 minute train ride back. Only downside was the car park, is in need of lighting up.

I've returned from a wonderful afternoon with my grandchildren 5 and 3 from the Kirklees light Railway Santa Special. It was special because all the staff were brilliant and Santa was the real thing. The gifts were good quality and the right age range. My grandchildren are thrilled with theirs. Mulled wine and mince pie for the adults with a... More
