We took a picnic and had a fabulous family day out at Kirklees Light Railway. There were good playgrounds at either end, and a bouncy castle at Shelley which was very popular. There was seating inside and outside for picnics and a small cafe with limited food at Shelley (nothing suitable for me, as I am gluten-free). The train ride... More

We took our grandson to the recently held Thomas Day - met the Fat Controller & had a good long steam engine ride, had bbq lunch, played lawn snakes & ladders & granddad & grandson took part in Thomas Tank Engine tug of war. Staff were very kind & helpful. Sir Topham Hatt was the spitting image of all pictures... More

Had a super day, made even better by the fact we only paid £10 for a family ticket on a LivingSocial deal. Made the journey from Clayton West to Shelley and back twice, once hauled by Owl and the other time by Badger. The staff, particularly the gentleman in the shop/ ticket office, were extremely friendly and attentive, and we... More

Been here a few times in wet and sunny weather and we love it. My son who's 4 is Thomas mad and he loves the Thomas days. He gets to fill Thomas(Hawk) with water. The ride is about 30 minutes long which is great value for money. Lots to do and see. The engines are kept prestine. Lots of history... More

Nice little railway, train journey a bit too long thought, 30 minutes there to a small station where there is a little cafe, and then 1 hour wait for train back to original place. Was nice enough, bit expensive. Cafe totally spoilt the day, Was VALUE white thin bread, with VALUE cheese spread, or VALUE cheap nasty "ham". Not at... More

Thank you for your comments, we take on board feedback whether positive or negative and use it to improve our railway. Our timetable allows customers to choose when they wish to return back to the main station, allowing a choice of a 15-20 minute stay at Shelley returning on the same train or returning on a later train in the... My little girl had her 3rd birthday party here last weekend & we couldn't have hoped for a better day. On arrival, the children all played happily in the playground until our Party Host took us aboard the Party Carriage for lunch. There was plenty of food & the little ones enjoyed it. There was even space for the Mums... More

Bought a family ticket from groupon £ 10 for us all and it was a lovely suprise. The train rain it's self has beautiful scenery and the staff was fab indulging my loud train mad 5 year old. Food in the cafe was good and very cheap. Toilets and baby change was very clean. Defo go again.

Value for money was exceptional! £7.00 adult for a day out with as many rides as you like on the 3.5mile narrow gauge steam train. Facilities are very good, big picnic area with playgrounds for children. Staffed mainly by volunteers who were very friendly and knowledgeable. May it continue for many years. If you like this sort of thing, then... More

My new favourite place to take my 2 year old train obsessed boy! We've been a few times & think it's fantastic value at £7 per adult & free for under 3's. My little boy loves the steam trains & the park's, train tables & minature train too. It's even better on Thomas Day out days, although significantly more expensive... More
