Being one of my local tourist attractions, I try to visit twice a year in different seasons. Today was superb warm sunshine with a strong breeze making wonderful noises through the trees which follow the line. Special 2 week 20.14% fare reduction in honour of Tour de France Grand Depart having been in the area, so only £5.60 for an... More

We go to Kirklees Light Railway when they hold special event days such as Halloween where you can ride on the "Ghost" train, fantastic surprises on the trip, the kids will love it. The other occasions "Thomas the Tank" etc are great fun with much to do as well as the train rides. Well priced and we find value for... More

Took our 3 year old grandson on the Railway, and it was great fun. The ride was longer than expected, which is good, and all the trains looked magnificent. There are nice playgrounds at each end of the track and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. What took the shine off it slightly was the cost; £7/adult, only a... More

Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed your visit to the railway and made use of our facilities such as the adventure playgrounds. With regards to the price for the visit, we haven't increased our fares since 2010. Also, once you have purchased your tickets, they allow you to have as many trips on the railway as... More

I booked an evening special train for a 90th Birthday celebration attended by 50 people. Tea and coffee were served as guests arrived, the train trip was a great experience enhanced by friendly, accommodating crews, and the buffet supper served on our return was comprehensive and satisfying. All the staff made a real effort to ensure that everyone had an... More

I came here on May 17th with my three year old grandson, and the day was one the most magical experiences we have had together. We had so much fun, and his imagination was stimulated by all the activities they provided, from donkey rides to face painting to all the train related stuff, rides on the platform on Thomas and... Kids had a great time, enough to keep you busy for a couple of hours, probably not something you could frequent too often as there is not enough other things to do besides the journey itself, but the kids loved it as a one off.

We had a big group of people that wanted a steam train ride while on holiday. I tried at least 10 steam train companies but none of them had any train running as it was midweek However I found Kirklees light railway I spoke to Nicola who advised they did not have a service but would be prepared to fire... Went here with 4 and 2 year old they thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautifully turned out engine, very friendly staff and interesting journey. Play area at either end of line - quite large. Shop and refreshments available. Plus little sit on train to go on outside Clayton West station - does two loops of a circle track. Adults need to mind... More

Visited the railway with friends and completed the return journey. All the staff were very friendly. The locomotives were immaculately clean and well maintained as were the coaches. The cafe, play areas, toilets facilities were all spotlessly clean. There were also play parks at either end of the line which the children all appeared to be enjoying. Lovely scenic journey... More

Our children bought my husband a train driving experience as a Christmas gift. We went along today and while he was taught the ropes and had his experience we hopped on the next train up the line so our grandchildren could play on the bouncy castle and in the play park. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his experience and recommends that... More
