Love this place. The kids really enjoyed coming here, the food is nice considering it's a quick cafe. Although on the other end of the rail there is a cafe but they don't accept card, I wish we had known this because we would have eaten at the cafe in the first area. Which left my kids hungry down the... More

Visited here in summer 2015 with our Grandson. Lovely afternoon out. The views from the train are really nice and our Grandson had fun on the bouncy castle.. Would highly reccommend it for an afternoon out!

Visited here last week with my 2yr old so he was free which was nice . Lovely cafe and food choices .Nice little ride on train and park but that's it .. cafe at other end and small park ...certainly wouldn't pay the extra for Thomas day as prices rocket ...and this they have to do for the patent .... We visited Kirklees Light Railway on the last weekend in January 2016. Weather wasn't brilliant but trains were still running. On arrival about 11am, we went to ticket office and was told the next train was at 11.40. Not a problem we took our 5 year old into the cafe...Bacon sandwiches were lovely, but the tea was bitter and awful.... More

We took our grandson to ride on the Thomas the Tank engine and he was thrilled to bits. The entire experience is well thought out and the different rides mad the entire outing a lot of fun.

I like this place but don’t feel like it’s moving forward as an attraction. I’ve been coming for years now and if anything the place is getting more tatty, not better. Leaving the station the train chugs through what looks like an abandoned building site with discarded piles of bricks, old lengths of rails etc slowly getting consumed by the... More

We visited the KLR for the Santa train for the second year running. The whole thing is very festive, the lights in the tunnel, mulled wine and mice pies and the best Santa, very good with the children. There is also a scavenger hunt, elves making balloon animals, and the train to ride. Will be back next Xmas

Visited in early September 2015 and took the Penistone Line to Shepley rail station and walked to the KLR terminus at Shelley which took about half an hour, so that might be an issue if approaching with younger children. The Shelley terminus has a small, basic cafe; toilets and a play area suitable for younger children - there was also... More

We've been on the Kirklees Light Railway many times now. The Easter extravaganza is a particular favourite of ours. It's not the cheapest of days out on a normal day, but is still a lovely afternoon out. I would agree with some of the other reviews that there isn't much to do at the other end. But I would definitely... More

This was our third visit to Kirklees Light Railway, the first being on Thomas, the second on the Easter Eggspress and the most recent on Santa's Special on Christmas Eve. As we were a party of 6 (ourselves being the grandparents), my daughter booked back in August soon after tickets became available as we know how quickly they sell. She,... More
