We spent a fun day travelling from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead along, we understand, the longest heritage railway line in England. It is a lovely trip, about an hour and a half long, wending its way through the wilds of Somerset and then alongside the Severn Estuary, at times almost alongside the water’s edge, and on into the seaside town... We took the Steam train from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and return. Our first trip to this area. It was very busy on the outward journey and spoilt for many people in our carriage by a young child who was constantly crying. Pity they didn't have an adults only carriage!! There were only 3 trains running in each direction that particular... More

The Best Steam Railway we have visited. The route from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead has got to be one of the most picturesque railway lines we have been on with its mix of rolling hills and countryside plus the added advantage of then opening out onto seaviews of the Bristol Channel. We were also very impressed as to the upkeep... More

The only reason I booked this three day holiday to Taunton was to see one particular locomotive on the WSR and, as it was their flagship I had no doubt that it would be on view. I was wrong. It was inside the shed at Williton and the gate was locked with nobody available (or willing) to let me see... More

We took the opportunity of celebrating our wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. What a wonderful day. Parking is an issue but understandable given the popularity of the place, the staff do their best to get everyone in safely and quickly. The experience starts with getting the tickets, the staff polite and once in receipt of our little authentic cardboard... More

At Bishops Lydeard there was plenty of free parking spaces and a separate entrance for the disabled parking. All the staff/volunteers greeted us as we walked to the Booking Office. A Day Rover for a Senior Citizen was £16.80 but, as this is the longest heritage railway in England, it is really good value for money. Give yourself plenty of... More

On arrival, it is not easy to see where the disabled parking is on the site. We had to ask. However, the train experience was excellent. Being the longest preserved railway we felt we had been on one of the express trains of old going to the seaside. The line is in an excellent state of preservation and, what I... More
