On a recent break in Somerset we decided to visit the WSR, as I work for the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent. We travelled from Bishops Lydeard, the southern terminus to Dunster where we went to look round the castle. The station staff were very friendly and helpful and the on-board staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The trains... More

A very well organised heritage railway. All the staff were most helpful and friendly. The trip from Bishops to Minehead is more than an hour so you really get the feel of the train. A rover ticket was £17 for the day - good value, and a lot of people were taking advantage of the on-board refreshments - so unlike... More

everything about this attraction is first class! the carriages, engines, stations all are very well presented ,the gardens at most of the stations en route to Minehead from Bishops Lydeard were beautifully looked after with lots of flowers and shrubs on show. The staff ( mostly volunteers) were all most helpfull and what we really appreciated was that at the end... More

Very busy w/e as there was a themed w/e I didn't expect. But it didn't ruin the w/e. Fine weather made it perfect all round. This is the best enthusiasts railway in the country.

Having lived in Minehead, the railway is a really great attraction , it is well run, has dedicated staff, who make everyone feel very welcome, a number of well organised days out throughout the year, this includes two major Galas, one mixed traction weekend, also Thomas the Tank Engine visits, which are extremely popular, together with Santa Specials, on which... We took the first train of the morning from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead which was surprisingly full for an off peak weekday. The trains of course were great to see, and the sounds of the steam engine pulling away were magical. The carriages had re-upholstered seats and were clean with tables at every place. The tables in the buffet car... More
