Visited the WSR yesterday as a last minute day out and I was not disappointed. I had not been there for over 15 years and much had changed, and for the better. 4 steam locomotives working the trains together with 3 diesels plus an added bonus of going through to Norton Fitzwarren ( it seems it was a special end... I think this is the best of the preserved routes in Devon/Somerset area. It's a longish journey (if you like that), track is smooth and there is good scenery of sea etc. with pretty stations lovingly maintained. Rolling stock comfortable and seats not full of dust. I went on the late summer weekend when they were running old diesel locos... More

My family and I each bought the Rover Ticket and had a lovely time hopping on and off the stations! Watchet was a nice treat but sadly Bishops Lydeard was not as interesting as we'd hoped! All of the volunteers on the Railway were above fantastic, keeping us up to date with what was going on while on the train... More

Loved the steam trains, friendly welcome and lovely scenery as the train travelled along the coast before going inland.

This was really good fun, although I would suggest that to make the Rover ticket worth the price, that you do more than one trip. Lots of different types of carriage so enjoy!

As frequent users of the West Somerset Railway we have experienced some lovely staff, but...there are also some who are rude and do no justice to the railway. We have travelled on many private railways but this one is the only one where we have met with these uniform wearing rude staff. Prices are also high especially £2 for a... More

Only had a few hours so decided to take a ride on the Steam train. Was brilliant to kick back and watch the rolling hills go by.

We travelled on this railway as a group of 12 from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster. Our ages ranged from toddler to pensioner. All the railway staff were dressed in original uniforms and had obvious delight in bringing back the age of steam to their passengers, if only for a short while. The little stations en route were immaculate and a... More
