As frequent users of the West Somerset Railway we have experienced some lovely staff, but...there are also some who are rude and do no justice to the railway. We have travelled on many private railways but this one is the only one where we have met with these uniform wearing rude staff. Prices are also high especially £2 for a... More

Only had a few hours so decided to take a ride on the Steam train. Was brilliant to kick back and watch the rolling hills go by.

We travelled on this railway as a group of 12 from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster. Our ages ranged from toddler to pensioner. All the railway staff were dressed in original uniforms and had obvious delight in bringing back the age of steam to their passengers, if only for a short while. The little stations en route were immaculate and a... More

Not a cheap trip but a magical way to see Somerset: we loved riding on the train, looking at the engines and hearing the wonderful chuff-chuff of the trains! Take a packed lunch and eat it in the train as you ride.

All the stations are perfect victorian representations. the track is about 20 miles which for a steam enthusiast gives a great insight into the past of an old country branch line. scenery is stunning.

During a stay in Stogumber, we used the West Somerset Railway on two days. It's a frequent enough service to use as public transport as well as as a tourist attraction. I loved the way the trains and platforms had been maintained, it was like going back in time for a while, and reasonably priced too. Dunster is a great... More

Decided to take the train for a morning out as my little boy loves trains. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the stations were Spotlessly clean. My kids got a Thomas book to keep and an activity pack with their tickets and thoroughly loved the experience. We got a lovely little compartment to ourselves and loved the... More
