We bought the Groupon voucher which represented excellent value for money but unfortunately chose the last weekend of the offer to travel and the train was overcrowded. We arrived early for the first steam train of the sunday and found a carriage. A couple of carriages were reserved for a motor club outing and although the weather wasn`t as good... More

We went from Bishops lydiard to Minehead and return The station was lovely, very oldey-worldy. The staff were friendly and traditionally dressed with attention to detail that normally just isn't found today. The cafe served lovely tea and the little shop was a trip down memory lane The journey itself was fantastic, the smell alone induced such wonderful memories and... More

As a railway enthusiast, I have visited many heritage railways and was keenly looking forward to my first trip on the WSR. However, as soon as we arrived at Bishops Lydeard, we realised that this railway had something special. from the shop to the cafe and the ticket office, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. It was the same on... More

Step back in time on board the steam train as it travels through the Somerset countryside and along the coast. The 20 mile trip from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and well worth the £15 per person return fare.

Beautifully maintained, everyone friendly, relaxing ... Could not fault the care and attention that is being paid to maintaining the stations. Good retail opportunities, catering and the timetable enabled you to stop off and enjoy one or another of the stations. A lovely day out.

This is the 4th time we have been on the railway. Still highly recommend it - nice comfy seats, lovely staff, GREAT beers available from the buffet cart. Lovely views Only wish the gift shop was a bit better stocked - I think they would make a fortune if it was. Highly recommended.
