Highclere Castle is a stunning building, made famous recently of course by both Downton Abbey and Jordan (aka Katie Price) who married there. It is a great historic residence and the rooms are decorated and furnished elegantly. However, it has several other very interesting aspects to it which are celebrated in exhibitions within the house. There is a large exhibition... More

I admit to being a Downton Abbey fan and excited at the prospect of seeing it "in person". While still delighted at the experience, I think it really is just another stately home and can't help but think all I did was contribute to the upkeep of the building and lifestyle. The home is lovely, just that, a home with... More

The 'Downton Abbey effect' has trebled the number of visitors to Highclere Castle and there's now only a very limited number of 'walk up' tickets available each day. Also you need to check the website for opening days and times, where you can also book ahead; usually open through July and August and around other UK school holiday periods, otherwise... More

I visited Highclere Castle with my Mother, via a coach trip, I must say i have seen a lot better stately homes. We went in to the Egyption Exhibition that took 5 minutes not much to see everone's cramped in small dark rooms so dark that you could not see the items which where not even real a plastic mummy.... We found the grounds of Highclere to be amazing with rolling hills, gardens, bleating sheep and acres of pastoral scenes. The tea and scones were a pleasant refreshment and the gift shop was affordable and offered many mementos of our visits. The Castle itself is resplendent with history, art, and furnishings! This is a must do if you are a... More

We stopped off at Highlere Castle on our way back from the south coast thinking for some reason we knew the name so would give it a visit. When we drove up the drive we realised it was where Downton Abbey is filmed - and we're fans lol. Luckily for us it was open as it was the bank holiday... More

Just back from Highclere castle, (Downton Abbey), The grounds are beautiful, the castle is just like what you see on television, we are big fans, the rooms looked smaller, but what an experience, had coffee and cake in the tea rooms, just lovely.

What a delight to see this beautiful stately home. The grounds are stunning and the tour through the house was fascinating, brought all the memories of Downton flooding back ! Knowledgeable guides and a very relaxed feel to everything.

Just had a great day at Highclere with my Mother - it was a Christmas present. The grounds and road to and house are stunning. The guides in each open room were approachable and friendly and knew the lot from A to Z! It's been open to the public for 26 years but footfall has increased with the popularity of... More

Visited 5th may 2013, purchased tickets on the day as were many people so do not have to pre book as it says on website. The house looks beautiful on the outside. The grounds are lovely. Gardens were abit of a dissapointment, due to the lack of floral displays due to the time of year. House very small and short... More
