Visited yesterday as a treat for my mums birthday and we loved everything about it. We arrived at 10.30 and walked straight up to the ticket booth. The Egyptian exhibition was fascinating with plenty of things to see. Next we went into the castle which was wonderful. You can walk around and take everything in at your own pace. The gardens... Went yesterday. Absolutely beautiful house and sublime grounds and views. Lovely shop and tea rooms. Fabulous champagne tea afterwards too in the old coach house. Not a great place for children who are used to theme parks, ball games and generally running around making a noise. Disability scooters are banned too, but wheelchairs are provided. So peaceful even though there... More

Although I went on a group visit it is possible to visit Highclere Castle without prior arrangement. There are a number of day tickets available on the day, but it does require you getting there early. The website states it opens at 10.30am but does in fact open when the staff arrive which was 10am on the day we visited.... More

The gardens are beyond comparison. Old majestic cedartrees, roses, cottage garden borders and wildflower meadows. Beautiful landscaping with romantic follies and the possibility to enjoy tea and scones. It is recommended to book in advance but chances are good to get a walk up ticket at 10 am. The nearby Basildon doesn't play in the same league. We didn't see... More

Yes, we had spent over 4 hours in the coach to get there. As we parked a guide came on-board and gave details of the place and a snap outline of the history. Well inside, the queue as several others have mentioned, however not too bad and got a good look at the ground floor. Most of the volunteers in... More

The day we went was a glorious summer day so that made it so much more enjoyable. We purchased tickets for the house, gardens and the Egyptian exhibition and enjoyed every aspect. The house is huge and for fans you get a look at some of the rooms you've seen in the series although you don't see all of the... More

Visited on a very hot day with two friends, one in a wheelchair. Although we booked our tickets last February, with a timed slot, I was disappointed at the amount of people trying to view the house at the same time, which made it extremely difficult with a wheelchair. Also people were buying tickets at the gate when we arrived... More

We are all fans of Downton Abbey so a visit to Highclere Castle was a must for us. We had to book due to the popularity of the castle and when the day came it was beautiful and sunny. There is a very long drive up to the castle and plenty of parking which was very well organised and not... More

Recently visited this attraction as a midweek treat. Arrived in the morning (mid) and purchased a ticket without issue, on site and at the kiosk. We parked, as directed on a grass field (hope you have a good memory, as its a large field without row letters/ numbering) and walked to the house. Our ticket was an AM slot so... More
