Rented a car from London. Directions to castle were easy to follow. The castle itself was pretty breathtaking. I loved that we were able to not only hear about the show Downton Abbey but really hearing about the history of the castle and the different pieces of artwork in many of the rooms. The guides in each room were extremely... More

Booked the Downton Abbey and Oxford Tour from London Including Highclere Castle with Viatour for Sept. 1, 2014. This was a wonderful tour especially if you are a Downton Abbey fan. Our tour guide Paul was excellent! He played the theme song from the show as we approached the castle. His knowledge was immense as was his enthusiasm. The trip... More

I loved visiting Highclere. It's a beautiful castle with amazing history, wonderful gardens and great cream tea! Word of warning: the walkthroughs inside the castle are not wide, and there are a lot of stairs, so if it's busy - as it was when we visited - the walk through will be packed like sardines with other people. Not unlike... More

This is an awesome day out for fans of country houses, history and Downton Abbey> Food was reasonably priced and the souveniers were a good price

We booked tickets on the Highclere Castle website as soon as they were available, printed tickets at home. Booked a direct train from London Paddington Station (used the First Great Western rail service website) to Newbury (took a nonstop train) Train takes 52 minutes, then hopped a cab to Highclere Castle. Spent several hours walking the grounds, entered the castle... More

We took the Premium tour. We left from the Victoria Coach Station. Our tour guide was David, He was excellent. He was very personable, informative and provided great stories during our visit to Oxford. During our visit to Highclere we toured most rooms shown on the TV show (library, music room, dining room, and bedrooms. We also had tea and... More

Did a fair bit of research on the best way to get here and other particulars. We decided to visit Highclere Castle, 15 Sep 2014. Tickets were booked on line for the 1030 time slot. Took Great Western Rail from Paddington Station London to Newbury, non stop. Left at 0818, got to Newbury at 0914. There and back was 50... More

As a huge fan of Downton Abbey, I have always wanted to visit here but my stays in the UK have not always coincided with the months it is open for visitors. Managed to go this year on the most spectacular day. The weather was great and our visit was a joy. Went with UK based family which includes two... More
