We visited Highclere Castle on Monday 15 September, which was a gorgeous sunny day. We had booked morning tickets and were there for when they opened. Although there were quite a few people queuing to get in, it wasn't too bad inside. We are Downton Abbey fans and now the series is back on television it is easy to relate... More

Made even more famous by Downton Abbey but there's so much more. The collection of Egyptian artifacts was an added bonus. Affordable gift shop too.

Highclere is a manor more than castle. It was ahead of its time in allowing light to all the rooms, even having a sky light. The lay out is so liveable compared to defensive castles that it is easy to see the why the owners would still want to live there. The quality of furnishing is excellent and it is... More

This has become so popular since Downton Abby but it does offer a fantastic glimpse into what life was like many years ago for the gentry. The Exhibition is a must for Egyptian fans. Best to go early afternoon to avoid the coach loads of Americans. The grounds are worth exploring too.

I visited Highclere Castle being a Downton Abbey fan, and knowing that we were coming to the UK my cousin obtained tickets for us as a special gift....and special gift it indeed was. Parking was a little walk away although for the disabled you could park near the entrance. Highclere has it's own presence and a fabulous sense of history.... More

.. We were staying with friends who lived 4 miles north of Highclere Castle! The day we went it was beautiful weather and the crowd was small, as it was about 10 AM. The walkway to the building is long and on a gravel path... not too easy for a wheelchair! Highclere is huge and very imposing upon approach. I... More

As a Downtown tragic I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Highclere Castle just to be in that space. The organisation is good and visitors well catered for, though lots of us arrived at the advertised starting time for the visit so we became a slow moving line of people snaking through the house. The guides in each room were good... More

Being devoted fans of Downton Abbey, my wife and I were thrilled to visit Highclere Castle with our Viking tour group. The champagne reception in the Main Hall was a classy way to start things off, and the guided tour of the mansion was everything we had hoped it would be. It’s a shame we weren’t allowed to take photos... More

There for a wedding (not a tour/visit) and I must say you could not fault the catering, service, and amenities - but then again it is very, very, very, very, expensive!!! The rooms are small and this should be seriously considered. At the wedding I attended (120 ) half the people could not get into the main hall for the... More
