It was lovely to see a family home- which yes is used in the TV series, but family photos added to the atmosphere of the house. That is what it is, not a film set! Most rooms had a card which gave basic information about the most important aspects of the room and each also had a guide who were... More

Beautiful setting in 5000 acre estate with grazing sheep and beautiful gardens. Lovely well kept castle. Tour includes almost all of the principal rooms, and a new feature on the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Fun and educational

Having booked our tickets over 6 months ago when dates on the website were released we were very surprised to see that tickets on the day were available. This is not the impression given on the website which we had been monitoring since 2013 - we feel a bit cheated now to have handed over £80 in April 2014 that... More

A friend and I visited Highclere Castle on August 14. We attempted to leave London via train that morning but there was an accident at Paddington. We then tried to take a coach there but the next one wasn't until evening. We took a coach to Reading. From there, we got a local bus to Newbury. We had one ticket... More

We arrived at 9:30 am and happy to buy a walk up ticket. We were there before the crowds and able to tour the castle at our own pace. The kitchen was not part of the tour since that is filmed in studio we were told. Otherwise, beautiful grounds to walk and great pictures can be taken outside. No photos... More

Wanted to visit Highclere for sometime, but was unable to book online as full. However turned up on the day and they had spare tickets left. Expected to just stay for the morning, but there was so much to see we stayed all day! Castle much better than expected, beautiful gardens, very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

A beautiful house, lovely to see the family memorabilia and that it is still lived in and loved. The Egyptian display was very interesting even if mainly copies as were the other items about Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon at the time of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Staff helpful if you had questions.

We visited Highclere Castle with some friends and had a very pleasant day. We spent two hours in the house and the Egyptian Exhibition. Despite the number of people we not hurried and guides were very good in their information about the various rooms. The family photographs that were on display gave the impression of a welcoming family home. We... More

My husband and I are huge Downton fans. We did not have tickets and had read that the tours were all sold out for the season. However, my husband read on the Carnarvon website that they release a few tickets each day for walk ups. We decided to get there early in the chance that we would be lucky. We... More

Only go if you are a DA fan. Your visitor experience is appalling. Staff are snobby, bedrooms roped and the Egyptian exhibit mostly copies. long queues with staff telling you not to stand in one place too long and to move. Most of the original furniture missing, tired and worn out items left for you to look at - but lovely ceilings.... More
