The date on the pavilion in the Italian Gardens reads 1914 so a happy one-hundredth birthday to them. Beautifully maintained, this is a real peaceful oasis and perfectly encapsulates the mood of the Edwardian age before the First World War. Here's to the next hundred years.

It is a bit of a climb up and down to reach these gardens but well worth the effort. The squirrels will come and eat from your hand, likewise the pigeons. It is a very tranquil setting and I find too that the folk who visit will say hello and smile but not intrude on your visit.ts nice to go... More

The Italian Gardens on South Cliff should not be missed by any visitor to the town. They are quite beautiful and there is an extraordinary number of lovely flowers and shrubs in the garden, as well as a pond in the centre, large wooden shelters at either end (in case of inclement weather!) and a lovely refuge full of birdsong... We visited the gardens on a very bleak foggy day but were still able to appreciate the lovely plants and the quiet serenity of this lovely garden. I hope the next time I go the sun will be shining and it will be earlier in the season.

I'm spoiled waking up every morning to the gardens below my balcony. They are really pretty and well worth a look. There are not just Italian gardens but rather a meandering of paths where one can stroll. Dogs are also allowed.

Great stroll through the gardens with lovely views over the bay. It's an easy walk down but there is a lift to get you back up again.

The gardens displayed avenues of colourful autumnal shrubbery and late flowers, A really peaceful pleasant place to stroll.

i'm not very good with steep descents, but the steady way down was illustrated with such beautiful floral scenery. these are well kept and peaceful gardens, a lovely way to wend down to the south promenade.

Others have already said it and I concur this is a hidden gem, its a quiet haven away from the crowds, maybe I should not be saying this in order to keep it that way.
