We have travelled a few times along this trail, both on cycles and walking with the dog. There are various points to access it too. We have cycled from the station tea rooms to Ravenscar and back again.(Uphill going). We have walked from Ravens car to Robinhoods bay and back a few times, stopping for picnics along the way. You... Decided to take the plunge and get the train from York to Scarborough with my bike and cycle the cinder path to Whitby and back to return home the same day. I completed the path on a road bike yet the terrain was awful for at least 90-95% of the track. Therefore, I would urge you ever so strongly to... More

Best way is to get the 115 bus to Ravenscar and walk back. Wonderful views, easy walking unless you go off piste to the Cleveland Way which is tough going by comparison. Good break at the Heyburn Wyke Inn half way down.

The Scarborough to Whitby rail trail is a fantastic walk/ride. It has cafes, pubs, villages with amenities and wonderful views. There is history all the way along with Ravenscar, the town that never was, being about the half way point. I have found that it is worth doing in sections so as to enjoy it and take in all that... Began trail in Scarborough with my wife of 14 years Karen hoping for an enjoyable journey. We picked up some tea and put it in our flask in preparation for a long fun day. We then after 15 minutes of walking ended up in a London Car Park freezing and without clothes. Would not try again.

We went from Pickering to Whitby on a lovely autumn day and it was really enjoyable. The coaches were very clean and comfortable and the staff cheerful and helpful. The scenery was stunning. I live very close to another steam railway so I know the constraints of running such a concern with mainly volunteer staff. This railway has got it... More

Some people are so rude on this track! I honestly think some of the local people think they own it... if you have a dog don't dare take it off the lead - the OAP dog walking police will be on you like a rash. If its quiet its bliss

Fantastic and safe trail, all the way from Scarborough to Whitby. Get on and off and catch the bus back, great scenery and pubs and tea rooms en route
