The Scarborough to Whitby rail trail is a fantastic walk/ride. It has cafes, pubs, villages with amenities and wonderful views. There is history all the way along with Ravenscar, the town that never was, being about the half way point. I have found that it is worth doing in sections so as to enjoy it and take in all that... Began trail in Scarborough with my wife of 14 years Karen hoping for an enjoyable journey. We picked up some tea and put it in our flask in preparation for a long fun day. We then after 15 minutes of walking ended up in a London Car Park freezing and without clothes. Would not try again.

This is an excellent trail linking with the cleveland way and is a wellmaintained and wealth of local history trail.

We went from Pickering to Whitby on a lovely autumn day and it was really enjoyable. The coaches were very clean and comfortable and the staff cheerful and helpful. The scenery was stunning. I live very close to another steam railway so I know the constraints of running such a concern with mainly volunteer staff. This railway has got it... More

Some people are so rude on this track! I honestly think some of the local people think they own it... if you have a dog don't dare take it off the lead - the OAP dog walking police will be on you like a rash. If its quiet its bliss

Fantastic and safe trail, all the way from Scarborough to Whitby. Get on and off and catch the bus back, great scenery and pubs and tea rooms en route

An hour and a half going back in time travelling on an old steam train. You can even travel first class for an extra £3.50 per person. This is ok if you are a couple but can get expensive for a family! Only down side I worried about is that even though the tickets are not cheap, you are not... More

You can do different parts of this trail depending on how fit you are we have done a few and no matter what time of year they are lovely, I prefer winter that's just me as my wife prefers summer. Enjoy!

Pretty good surface for cycling, varied with plenty of open sections as well as wooded ones. Quite an incline from Hayburn up to Ravenscar then down to Robin Hoods Bay. Lovely café and accommodation at Cloughton station.
