Well worth a visit.

We had looked forward to our trip and found the set up of the hospital ward was very interesting and the actors were good but on the whole the house was very dull. A bit more information about the families who had lived there would have been interesting. On the other hand the guided tour of the grounds was very... More

I particularly wanted to visit this year while the house was shown as it was when it was used as a WW1 Hospital. I am very glad I did. A lot of effort must have gone into recreating it. The hall was interesting too with a lot of rooms to view and it is particularly well kept. The garden is... More

Cheshire is not short of splendid stately homes to visit, but Dunham Massey is certainly one of the most splendid. There are three different parts to Dunham Massey: the house, the gardens and the estate. The hall is a large building, mainly Georgian in character, with many fine treasures and paintings. At the moment several rooms are displayed as a... More

We visited while the hall was transformed back to its WW1 state as a hospital. With actors playing patients and medical staff and all of the rooms back to how they were you got a real feel of how it would be for the staff and for the soldiers rescued the front line to be treated here. We ate in... More

Visited Dunham Massey and had an excellent day, it's a property owned by the National Trust, there is lots to see here both in the house and the surrounding gardens and parkland, part of the building was used as a hospital for servicemen during WW1, and they have faithfully reproduced the rooms as they were at that period including actors... A good day out at Dunham Massey, the highlight of which is the re-creation of the WW1 hospital which is due to run until November. The grounds are extensive offering plenty of walking opportunities and the food in the restaurant is good. The downside is that it is very expensive. Unlike most NT properties it costs £6 to park the... More

It was a lovely sunny day - just perfect to visit this historic house and its gardens. The house was hosting a re-enactment of the Stamford Military Hospital, set during the First World War. Actors played out the roles of nurses and patients, taking their dialogue from actual events. It was very moving to see the bed charts showing some... More

Visited this venue yesterday for the first time in over 20 years. There's so much to see both in the hall and gardens that we will have to return in the near future. As members the prices were not an issue. NT have done a great interpretation job on the First World War era but I would have liked to... More

I had to speak up and give credit to the National Trust on the re-creation of the First World War Hospital ward and Operating Theatre. It really brought home the horrific injuries, and the developing surgeries to try and fix the soldiers. The mix of the full recreated ward, and the Operating Theatre mixed with actors portraying recovering soldiers was... More
