As a couple of whisky anoraks we opted for the Lochnagar's £30 Royal tour. Well, to start with, the welcome was as far from royal as you can imagine. Due to the road diversion we were ten minutes late and told off straight away: "we expected you at 10:30!" ... that must've been that well-known 'Highland time' mentality of relaxed... More

Visited the distillery on Saturday. We were coming from the Inverness area so had an interesting trip through the Cairngorms with the patchy fog.. The main bridge at Crathie across to Balmoral and the distillery is closed for major works just now so beware of the detour via Ballater just now to reach the distillery - it probably added 20... This was a fantastic waste of an hour. The tour and the history behind Royal Lochnagar Distillery was explained beautifully and walking around parts of the distillery got you so excited about tasting the whiskey but also understanding how you taste the whiskey and appreciating the flavours that come from the process. It is a must and well worth £7.00... More

The tour was informative and a good place to visit if the weather outside is poor, (it was raining when we went there). You get a tot of whisky after the tour which I was told was fantastic, I hate the stuff so had to give mine away. all in all, a worthwhile excursion.

The bridge from the carpark at Balmoral Castle is currently closed but the 40 minute detour through Ballater is definitely worth it. Leanne was an excellent tour guide - funny, knowledgeable and passionate. Not only is the tour interesting but the area is a sight for sore (city) eyes in the Autumn.

My wife and I did the royal tour. Our guide was great (can't remember her name) very personable and always asked if we had more questions even though she filled our heads with a lot of great information. I was even lucky enough to do something very rare (it's a secret, sorry) overall a great time, beautiful location, tons of... More

Excellent to find a tour guide that is passionate and obviously loves their job. Gordon made the tour so much more than just a walk around the process of making whisky. I would do the tour again just for Gordon's stories.

We had a wonderful tour of the distillery in a lovely spot, just around the corner from Balmoral Castle. I think our Scottish friend, Sean, got even more out of it than we did. Our guide soon softened up from the reserve that many seem to have. The tour was very interesting and we were able to see several ongoing... More

My wife and I visited the Royal Lochnagar which is very close to Balmoral Castle. The distillery is small old and cute. The tour was instructive for a non expert.
