One of the smallest distilleries in the Diageo portfolio, Royal Lochnagar Distillery is located on Royal Deeside, midway between the villages of Ballater and Braemar and close to Balmoral Castle. Travelling up from the North East of England, my three friends and I arrived just as our tour was due to start. Despite the weather being wet and miserable outside,... More

I visited this distillery as part of a multi distillery itinerary in June. Although I did not have enough time to complete a full tour I did make time for a look about and taste the local produce! The staff were friendly, and gave a brief history of the distillery due to our time restraints, and stamped out 'Scottish' passport!... More

My fiancee and myself visited the distillery last Saturday. We had a fantastic time. I phoned in advance as we both life in Pitlochry. Fantastic scenery and the staff could not have been more helpful. I can only say, thank you for the great experience.

Three of us came to Royal Lochnagar on a cold, gusty January Saturday. We had read that there was a tour starting at 1230 and arrived just about on time. There didn't seem to be anyone at the distillery proper so we wandered off to the office in another building. The young woman who came out greeted us warmly and... More

Although the gift shop is nice to peruse and the staff friendly, be aware reader that you can purchase their 12 year Malt in it's presentation box from the general merchant's shop called George Strachen Ltd opposite the church in nearby Ballater. Following my complaint to the Distillery about this, their response was "All our company products within our Distillery... More

it must be said that all of us (except for one) are definitely newbies when it comes to whisky and this was the only distillery we visited but.. we loved it! The tour lasted one hour and it was very interesting, alex was great and then we had two drams to taste (we took the 10 pounds tour). it was... More

As a couple of whisky anoraks we opted for the Lochnagar's £30 Royal tour. Well, to start with, the welcome was as far from royal as you can imagine. Due to the road diversion we were ten minutes late and told off straight away: "we expected you at 10:30!" ... that must've been that well-known 'Highland time' mentality of relaxed... More

Visited the distillery on Saturday. We were coming from the Inverness area so had an interesting trip through the Cairngorms with the patchy fog.. The main bridge at Crathie across to Balmoral and the distillery is closed for major works just now so beware of the detour via Ballater just now to reach the distillery - it probably added 20...
