Great Place!

We went back in March of 2013 but it won't let me go back that far. Great place! Very sad to see it burnt down! Hopefully they get back on their feet and get another one

Sadly this was burnt out in a fire in May 2015 which is a devastating blow to the community. It was the original Victorian station with a superb but small museum, tearoom and tourist office.Hopefully, it will rise again from the ashes.

We left Ballater on May 12, 2015. On the national television news that morning was coverage that the Old Royal Station in Ballater had burned to the ground overnight, leaving 25 locals without employment. On our drive out of town, we parked and walked to the scene. Firefighting equipment and personnel still surrounded the station, of which very little remained.... More

a fire at 2:30am Tues morning destroyed both the Station and the wonderful restaurant adjacent to it. By all accounts, it was a total loss. Sad day as we were there just 2 weeks ago.

Fire destroys historic Old Royal Station in Ballater Among them was a replica of the Royal carriage which took Queen Victoria to Scotland in 1869. It had been painstakingly hand-crafted to match the original design after being commissioned by VisitScotland at the suggestion of Prince Charles.

We arrived at the Royal Station in Ballater in the pouring rain rather late on a Sunday afternoon and were both surprised and pleased to discover that the cafe/restaurant was still open. We sat and relaxed in olde worlde surroundings and thoroughly enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate (which was actually hot) and a scrumptious slice of spiced apple cake.... More

During our stop in Ballater we visited the old Royal station and for just £2 it is well worth going into the museum and seeing the original rail carriage that Queen Victoria used during her travel to Balmoral prior to the railway line closing. There is also an opportunity to see a free video. It was nice to go somewhere... More

Had a very pleasant lunch, reasonably priced and served with very polite and helpful staff. The Restaurant was clean, tidy an d comfortable. There was a public car park just outside the front door.
