Wonderful place for peace and tranquility, a walk round the Tarn is a joy for scenery and wildlife. Nice cafe afterwards for a coffee or snacks.

A pleasant, flat walk round a tarn. Lots of wildlife around and a wind that blew away the cobwebs! The walk is just over a mile long.

My wife and I were staying in Carlisle for a few days and fancied a bit of fresh air. There are parks near the centre of the city but, owing to the recent flooding, we chose to go elsewhere. Talkin Tarn is only a twenty minute drive away so we decided to go there. It is not the easiest place... More

Work as activity leader in a Care Home and we took some residents in the summer for a walk around, walking round the pond was clean and very pleasant could suggest more benches and stop points seemed to have to walk a while to sit down. We went to the café for some refreshments and had to leave almost immediately... More

Me and my boyfriend went here just to check it out as it's not far from our new home and we were really impressed. It's so quaint and lovely, the walk around the lake is not too long so most people could manage it, we saw people pushing prams around it. Lots of dogs around so if you have a... More

The best bit about walking around the Tarn is that you meet everyone twice, and, everyone speaks to you. Ice cream at the Tarn café is a given, even in November. A really 'must do walk' if you are in this lovely part of the country.

A super trail around the tarn. Logs to climb, hills to run up and down, fishing, sailing and a rolling tube in the summer for the children. Tea room has exceptionally good and fresh clotted cream and scones - who needs anything else other than a cup of good tea or coffee!

Lovely place to go for a walk. About a mile round the tarn. Coffee shop which sells lovely ice creams. Only drawback is the pay and display car park

Very quiet and scenic tarn. Walking round is easy on reasonable pathway and takes 30/40 minutes. There are seats on the way round to take a breather or simply enjoy the views and the peacefulness. Free to walk round but parking charge. Nice cafe.

A circular walk around the Tarn on a Summer day - or indeed any other time of the year - is a blissful trip. There's an informative bird hide at one point and in the Summer you can hire little boats from the boat hire next to the excellent cafe which provides light bites and local goodies. There's something for... More
