We made a day visit to Carlisle while on holiday in west Northumberland. We passed the door of Tullie House while on the way to the castle & decided to give it a try. We spent so much time there we never got to the castle. Firstly there was an exhibition of art by Anselm Keifer which was very well... More

The cultural oasis of Carlisle. Great museum with loads of additional activities to do for people of all ages. Cafe is great with good quality food and on a sunny day there is no better place in Carlisle than the gorgeous Tullie House walled garden to have a coffee... Also enjoy going on Monday nights to see European-Foreign movies in... More

We went to Carlisle to visit the cathedral and the castle but discovered this first class museum. There is so much to see including its excellent art gallery. There is plenty for serious-minded adult visitors in addition to lots presented especially for children. Every part of the museum had activity an activity area for children. After a couple of hours... More

A good find in Carlisle. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The food is fresh and made on the premises. At lunchtime there are queues but it is worth the wait!!

I love this place. It is mostly for children - some people on here seem shocked it is not in-depth on the grid reference where ancient Roman pots were found... It is a fun museum with activities and games, aimed at giving kids an enjoyable way to learn a bit about British history. The Reivers bit in particular is great... More

We went to the museum on a wet lakeland day - only 30 minutes or so from Keswick - and were very impressed by the way in which the displays were curated. These are informative and well presented so that it was a pleasure to spend time there and learn more about the history of the area. As an added... More

I went there with my two little kids and even though they were quite young to understand it all the museum really tried to make it as interesting and interactive as possible.
