This cathedral has two factors which are absent in many cathedrals - a wonderful atmosphere and beauty. There is so much to see and appreciate in such a small catherdral. My wife and I found the guides ready to talk and related well to us .anT the ladies in the gift shop were more than money-takers, they wanted to relate to... More

Although I have been visiting Carlisle for many years, somehow I had never managed to visit the Cathedral until very recently. It is one of the smallest cathedrals in the UK , but that , I feel, simply adds to the appeal of the place. Very much a busy active church open and friendly to all. One is not overwhelmed... More

Where ever we travel we love to visit buildings of historical importance. So when we spent a few days around Carlisle, we had to visit the Cathedral.First of all ,thank you for not charging to,,enter the House of God.We are always happy to make a donation but an entrance fee annoys us.(takenote Chester). The Cathedral is well maintained and beautifully presented. We were... Carlisle Cathedral is one of the smallest cathedrals in United Kingdom and is situated in the heart of the city. It is attractive on the outside and inside it is very impressive with it's magnificent East Window and intricate ceiling which make this Cathedral a must see. There is a no admission fee but a donation is expected.

I came here while in Carlisle for the day, the volunteers were really friendly and helpful giving us leaflets to guide us around he cathedral. The cathedral is very beautiful and if you are in the area it is nice to have a quick peak inside.

Carlisle Cathedral is fairly small in scale in terms of cathedrals, but it is a jewel easily accessible from the City Centre. It is a combination of Gothic and earlier Norman architecture. Unfortunately a great part of the Norman church was destroyed many hundreds of years ago, but some of the rounded arches and windows are still visible. The East... More

Mainly went here to try and figure out a new camera. The only thing you pay for is taking photographs. The staff is helpful pleasant as its a none profit making organisation I think it is a good idea to either spend money in the shop or in the donation box.

I attend a short Celtic communion with some friends at 12 30pm every Monday. It is a lovely peaceful service with Celtic music played at appropriate times. It lasts just half an hour and we all enjoy it very much. There are also different style services on Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes. The cathedral itself is very beautiful steeped in history,... Maybe it's because I live here, but whenever I visit Carlisle Cathedral I feel a resonance with the history that resides here, a presence of timeless serenity of spirit. No other Cathedral in the UK feels quite like Carlisles. A beautiful place.

Carlisle cathedral is one of the smallest in the country, due to the original nave being used to repair the castle after one of the many skirmishes with Scotland, but it truly is beautiful. The ceiling of vivid blue with golden stars is exquisite, look out for the face in the centre. The east window has some of the oldest... More
