On a recent visit to Carlisle I took a tour of the cathedral. It was smaller than I thought but has plenty of history about it. It has lovely stained glass windows. I would recommend a visit, If you do see if you can spot the face in the starlight ceiling.

Carlisle cathedral is lovely inside but can become very crowded with young people leading around. The staff are quick to assist when they are disruptive though. A nice place to gather your thoughts.

On the day we were there it was cold, windy and wet on the outside. On the inside it was dark and gloomy and cold. But as you moved around the shadowy building you would suddenly find yourself in wee pockets of glory. These wee chapels were beautifully decorated and set against a stunning (and everyone was stunning) stained glass... More

The UK is full of stunning cathedrals and this is one of them. The ceiling is magnificent and 'The Beckham Sword' is a very interesting story. Well worth a visit.

We have been to many services and events and have never been disappointed in our visits. If however you just want to wonder around and offer a prayer or two then that's fine too. The history is very interesting and the guides first class. The ladies in the gift shop are extremely helpful too.

Having been a chorister way back in the 1970's it always lifts the spirits when I visit this beautiful place. You will be impressed by the painted ceiling which extends from the East window to the cathedral organ. It may be relatively small as far as cathedrals go but it punches above its weight when it comes to being a... More

Interesting architecturally, both Norman and Gothic architecture combined in this small cathedral. The west window is the 3rd biggest in the world and the barrel vaulted main ceiling is beautiful. A section of the cathedral was demolished to reinforce the city walls during one of the many periods of Scottish/English 'disagreements.

Easy to find haven of history in city centre. The ceilings were amazing as were the windows. A special delight for me was a sculpture by Josephina de Vasconalles, which was not attributed to anyone. Apparently they have more hidden away which is disappointing as I would have liked to have seen them!!! Very odd when she is so famous.... More

We were here for my daughters graduation - its a lovely cathedral, there is so much to see even though it is very compact. The ceiling and main window are fantastic.
