A lovely place to visit. No entrance fee. Cathedral is just stunning. Very impressive architecture, carved interiors and beautiful ceilings. Trained guides and information boards are very good explaining the actual History of the place. People will really enjoy visiting the Cathedral - a Gothic delight.

This ancient Cathedral in lovely red sandstone is well worth a visit. It is impressive, especially the nave ceiling and the carved wooden panels above the choir seats. However best of all were the beautifully carved, interesting and amusing misericords carvings under the folding choir seats. The varied and fascinating history of cathedral was well explained on a series of... More

The cathedral is a truly awe inspiring piece of architecture with an absolutely beautiful interior. I was particularly taken by the amazing ceiling which is decorated in blue and gold and from my experience pretty unique. I have never seen such beautifully detailed and carved misery chords. There is so much to discover and I'm looking forward to another visit.

Absolutely beautiful Cathedral. The details are amazing and just walking into the cathedral was like stepping back in time. The area it is in is also very neat, has lots of food options and places to hangout. The Cathedral has a 'Sensory Trail' to take you through without a tour guide. We were able to about half of the trail,... More

We took a trip to Carlisle on the Settle to Carlisle railway and visited the cathedral. What a great building, we were met by a cathedral guide Brian Lowe. He was a mine of information and told us many things we did not know. Free admission, but a donation is suggested when you leave. This is a must see when... More

Lovely stained glass windows, lovely wood carvings, interesting history, peaceful atmosphere. The treasury in the basement of the cathedral is well worth a visit.

A great place to visit. The whole area around the cathedral is lovely and the little pub opposite (The Sportsman) is a great place for a quick drink on a sunny day. We got a short guided tour by one of the staff as the guide had finished for the day. It was very interesting and he pointed out things... More

Great , well kept castle in the heart of the city. Reasonable admission fee. Some interesting exhibits and it was good to be able to walk around all of the rooms and go up several levels. Walk around the walls also give great views

This is probably one of the country's smaller and least imposing cathedrals. There is some renovations taking place around the main doorway but don't let this put you off as the inside is well worth a visit. There is no charge for entry rather they ask you to make a donation towards its upkeep which is always a plus for... More
