Carlilse cathedral is a short stroll from the main shopping / eating area. It's free to enter, although there is a box near to the entrance which encourages a £5 donation. You need to purchase a £1 photographer's pass if you wish to capture internal images. We particularly enjoyed looking at the tributes to the Border Regiment in the Norman... More

We went here for a Sunday service and were made to feel very welcome by the congregation. The cathedral is a fascinating space being only half of what it was originally built as. The organ is fantastic with a sound which fills the space beautifully. The experience of the care and kindness shown to those attending the service by the... More

Well worth a visit, the Cathedral is in great location with pleasant surroundings. Take a note of the amazing roof on the inside and the wood carvings on the pews. The staff a very helpful and will give you lots of historical information. ENJOY

The cathedral is located close to the city center and is a must see attraction when in Carlisle. The organ is most impressive and you can wander around for quite a while. There is an adjacent tea room which serves good food. The buildings surrounding the cathedral makes the entire complex even more impressive.

I had the pleasure of attending my daughters graduation at Carlisle Cathederall and was truly astounded at the magnificent features inside. There is a small amount of restoration work going on around the front doors which means there is a restricted access at present, however on entering the main aisle your breath is taken away with an upward glance. The... More

I love Carlisle Cathedral, it has such an interesting history. I've taken many visitors roun, each time with a different guide telling different stories. The cross of the church is off centre, the pillars in parts have sunk due to a drought in the Middle Ages and much of the fabric was taken from Roman remains. There is also a... More

I usually visit cathedrals when I go somewhere new. Carlisle is excellent. Lovely red stone. Plenty of guides willing to help. Beautiful ceilings. I particularly liked the area dedicated to the Border Regiment. The grounds and buildings around the Cathedral are very attractive.Lots of people sitting outside eating lunch.

Absolutely love Carlisle Cathedral. I have always visited from a young age but can still busy my time from visiting here. For a cathedral that has free admission it really is a wonderful place. The architecture inside and out it simply stunning, the ceiling is a must see aspect of this cathedral! I find peace here and enjoy going to... More
