Colchester's distinctive heritage is nowhere more apparent than in Castle Park. A site of national importance, this Victorian Park contains evidence of 2000 years of history and is a landscape moulded by the people of Colchester over many eras.Castle Park not only encompasses much of Colchester's rich heritage within its boundaries but is much loved and used as a part of present day life. It boasts over 1 million visitors a year. Providing a green oasis in the town centre, you can sit, walk, enjoy music, play games, or picnic amongst wonderful flowers and trees. Its horticulture is award-winning and the park has long been a superb venue for the town's big events. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

This is a very large area well treed and with planted gardens including a fish pond (enjoyed by small children) used by local people and visitors. There is a tourist information centre, museum, cafes, children`s play area, access to the river. A great place for families and quiet spaces in which to relax.

I visited the park 15 years ago and it had improved a lot since then. There are new media and film to explain the history of the castle. It's certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.

We are so lucky to have this park on our doorstep. It's beautifully maintained and a lot of love and care is taken in keeping it like that. I just wish that the public using it had more respect and pick there litter up whilst using this beautiful place. There are places to get refreshments, but we normally take a... More

A great park for the kids to go rolling down the slopes(!) and for all ages to stroll in some lovely gardens. May be a little steep for some, but there are some great views to be had ranging from wonderful Colchester Castle at the top to the river Colne at the bottom.

We like to take a picnic to the park and sit near the castle. There are some geat views across the Essex countryside. There is a huge play area with extensive modern play equipment for the kids.

Pleasant park, visited earlier this year with my 12 year old cousin. The castle is absolutely beautiful and it's a nice day out.

This park right in the centre of the Town is quite breath taking in its beauty and peace. I have often just sat on the grass in the middle of the park just soaking up the quiet and love the way in which the place is kept so pristine and natural. Events in this park take on a more magical... More

I briefly passed through with a friend. We stood near the castle. I remember that the gardens were beautiful when we were there.

Went for a walk on a sunny day in Colchester, lots of places to sit and enjoy a picnic. The squirrels are very cute, inquisitive and quite tame. Some of the flower displays are impressive
