Colchester's distinctive heritage is nowhere more apparent than in Castle Park. A site of national importance, this Victorian Park contains evidence of 2000 years of history and is a landscape moulded by the people of Colchester over many eras.Castle Park not only encompasses much of Colchester's rich heritage within its boundaries but is much loved and used as a part of present day life. It boasts over 1 million visitors a year. Providing a green oasis in the town centre, you can sit, walk, enjoy music, play games, or picnic amongst wonderful flowers and trees. Its horticulture is award-winning and the park has long been a superb venue for the town's big events. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

I walk through here most days. It is a beautifully kept park. We often visit the various craft fairs during the summer months and some of the music events too. Entertainment for all ages is here with two marvellous play areas for the children. Would def recommend a visit.

Had a great day here today with my 3yo who loves the new instalments in the park including the sandpit area. The play area has had a good revamp and play equipment has been updated. However, the much loved blue helter-skelter slide has made a reappearance at the other end of the play area, much to my daughter's delight. We... More

A beautiful park with a number of winding trails for the walker or gentle stroller alike. The park has a number of playgrounds for the little ones both in the upper and lower sections of the park. The centre piece is the castle by the main entrance. Easy to lose yourself here for a morning or afternoon. When we visited... More

Beautiful flowers and clearly well looked after. Very pleasant to stroll around. The cafe is very nice, with outdoor seating. Playground seemed in good condition. The ducks clearly get quite well fed, as weren't keen on a late afternoon feed! The squirrels do seem to be very content, although I did hear that sometimes they are too friendly and climb... More

Colchester castle is positioned close to the town centre and is definitely worth visiting it is not only beautiful on the outside but is also filled with historical facts, artefacts and fun activities. The castle also holds lots of exhibitions and special events. I have often taken visitors to see the castle and to investigate the history of Colchester inside... More

One of the best places to visit, on your own, with friends or with family. Such a beautiful open space in the middle of Colchester. A wonderful place for young and old to just relax or play or run. Free fir all and with the option of going into the castle if you want. Would recommend taking a picnic.

The gardens are lovely. Very well looked after and worth visiting. There is a bandstand and cafe. In the grounds is the castle, but costs £7.50 per adult, which we thought was a little pricey. A nice place to take a walk in the park, water features, children's play area and lots of quite places to sit and have a... More

Very well kept and plenty of variety including the pond and bowls green. Flowers are beautiful in the summer and squirrels are used to being fed so are very friendly.
