Colchester's distinctive heritage is nowhere more apparent than in Castle Park. A site of national importance, this Victorian Park contains evidence of 2000 years of history and is a landscape moulded by the people of Colchester over many eras.Castle Park not only encompasses much of Colchester's rich heritage within its boundaries but is much loved and used as a part of present day life. It boasts over 1 million visitors a year. Providing a green oasis in the town centre, you can sit, walk, enjoy music, play games, or picnic amongst wonderful flowers and trees. Its horticulture is award-winning and the park has long been a superb venue for the town's big events. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

Colchester's Castle Park has an amazing playground - still pretty new - including a large sandy area. At the weekends it's very busy, but I take that as a sign of a good play area. There are rides for all ages and even a shop around the corner selling ice-creams and teas. The park itself is very pretty and has... More

This park is absolutely stunning. The Grounds are kept looking gorgeous and we often see the Groundsmen/women at work in the flower beds changing the displays and keeping everything tidy during the changing seasons. The toilets are also well kept. The views are wonderful, especially on a lovely sunny, crisp autumn day. Wrap up warm and take a romantic stroll... More

This is possibly the most well kept park I've been to, immaculately kept, great for picnics or just a gentle stroll. A visit inside the castle is worth it, plenty of interesting facts and history. There was a well kept playground for young children but also a few water hazards close by so bear that in mind. If you're in... More

This is a nice family day out. The free museums are nice. Not been to the Castle since revamp, hoping this time it is good, as found it to be quite boring and over priced. Downfall to the park is, whenever there is an event on you have to pay ridiculous amounts to enter, and far as I know it... More

My family have been visiting this park since they moved locally in the 70s. I have visited this park since I was a baby. It has changed ALOT in 9 years. There are a few disappointments though. Last year, when I was 8 this man shouted at me for chasing a squirrel. I think people are making the squirrels too... More

It's a good place to have a family picnic. There are usually a lot of events going on here as well so good day out for a family. The squirrels strangely come straight up to you to try and get some food, quite funny really.

The Colchester Castle Park is a credit to the gardeners who care for it, and the Council that funds it. A peaceful environment in which to stroll, to chat, and have a coffee at the Park's cafe. And we loved the squirrels, the friendliest beings in Colchester!
