Owner description: Colchester's distinctive heritage is nowhere more apparent than in Castle Park. A site of national importance, this Victorian Park contains evidence of 2000 years of history and is a landscape moulded by the people of Colchester over many eras.Castle Park not only encompasses much of Colchester's rich heritage within its boundaries but is much loved and used as a part of present day life. It boasts over 1 million visitors a year. Providing a green oasis in the town centre, you can sit, walk, enjoy music, play games, or picnic amongst wonderful flowers and trees. Its horticulture is award-winning and the park has long been a superb venue for the town's big events. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

My family have been visiting this park since they moved locally in the 70s. I have visited this park since I was a baby. It has changed ALOT in 9 years. There are a few disappointments though. Last year, when I was 8 this man shouted at me for chasing a squirrel. I think people are making the squirrels too... More

It's a good place to have a family picnic. There are usually a lot of events going on here as well so good day out for a family. The squirrels strangely come straight up to you to try and get some food, quite funny really.

The Colchester Castle Park is a credit to the gardeners who care for it, and the Council that funds it. A peaceful environment in which to stroll, to chat, and have a coffee at the Park's cafe. And we loved the squirrels, the friendliest beings in Colchester!

We have been taking children, now grandchildren, to the play areas in Castle Park for many years. The new equipment & play areas have vastly improved the opportunities for active play for all age groups up to teenage. Also good for summer walks & picnics before or after some shopping in Colchester.

This park is very amenable. It surrounds the impressive castle itself and has something for everyone. You are even encouraged to feed the squirrels with nuts from the park shop and they are so tame they will eat from your hand.

Very large and beautiful park that caters for everyone. The main attraction being the Norman castle, there are also 2 large playground for kids, cafe's, large areas for picnics or activities, benches to sit and relax and a river to look at the wildlife. Highly recommended

My daughter often goes into the town centre and finds castle park a good place to go to meet up with her friends, whom live all around the Colchester area. Many kids are there and the park is very child friendly. It is also a great place to relax after a long day shopping. Also it shows how old Colchester... More

A well kept park that offers a lovely contrast to the busy town centre. In particular the park is well equipped to keep youngsters well occupied whereas for an older generation there is quite a bit of history to read on the display boards around the castle,
