The decision of this theatre to put on a number of the linked plays within Ayckbourn's "Intimate Exchanges" must have felt risky at the time, but judging by the continued audience when we have attended, it was a risk worth taking. The two actors who cover all the parts (6 of them) are amazing, managing to hold the very different... More

Being fans of Cadfael we visited to see "The Virgin in the Lake" presented by a touring company. If you can survive the early scenes which are a bit "bitty" and disjointed (but necessary to set the scene) the play begins to warm up and progresses to its climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this production and can recommend it if you... More

Always enjoy going to the Mercury but bar always manic with no orderly serving. Could do with better tables and chairs! Auditorium very comfortable!

It is some time since we visited the Mercury and we found the ambience excellent. It felt light and airy and the performance we saw on 'One Man Protest' was absolutely first rate. We will be back.

We visited the theatre for a magic show in April 2013. The show itself was ok, but more so, the location was great! We have lived in Colchester for a year now and had never been – which I now greatly regret. The location is of a good size, and a good location, close to car parks and also has... More

My daughter and I have been to see numerous plays here and we have always enjoyed them. The theatre itself is large enough without being vast. I have always been able to hear well and have had good views of the stage (although I always book decent tickets so would expect this). If I had a gripe it would be... More

Went to the Mercury to see Ben - as Michael Jackson. Booked in Sept 2012 as other half is a MJ fan and this show was advertised as brilliant and amazing. The theatre is great. Superb seats, good view of stage and friendly helpful staff. The show however was poor - a second rate MJ tribute act. Have seen much... More

We watched Garage Band in the Studio at the Mercury Theatre. The studio is a small performance space within the Mercury and suited this play very much. This is one of the best plays we have ever seen. The Mercury is a lovely theatre, with all the facilities you would expect from a theatre - bar, restaurant.

Went to the panto here with my 6 year old son & husband, not been for years. Well organised during the interval for ice cream sales etc, not expensive either & really nice, tasty ice cream too.Easy to exit during performance for the usual kid style" I need a wee" .
