Description: Colchester Arts Centre - the little church with the big attitude deep in...
Colchester Arts Centre - the little church with the big attitude deep in the heart of Essex. Well that's how we describe it anyway. It sort of works, it at least gives a flavour of what we're about. Because just how do you describe a venue that can put children's entertainer Palfi the Clown on, on the same day as Cradle of Filth? Where a Farmer's Market in the morning becomes a comedy club in the evening, where folk enthusiasts can sit happily knitting (and they do!) in the exact same spot a ferocious mosh pit of teenage dancing takes place the following night? And where the beautiful historic architecture of St Mary's Church dating back over a thousand years, plays host to some of the newest comics, most modern choreographers, some of the coolest DJ's and some of the freshest talent in Britain. Over the years we've promoted Coldplay, Eddie Izzard, Graham Norton, Harry Hill, Catherine Tate, Jo Brand, The Libertines, Ash, The Killers, The Strokes, Phill Jupitus, Mick Jones, Bill Bailey, Jack Dee, Count Arthur Strong - all before anyone had ever heard of them of course - plus the likes of jazz legend Ronnie Scott and even the late lamented and much loved Brian Johnston the cricket commentator. Our passion to present new work, bring great bands and comics to Colchester burns more brightly than ever. Our business is all about fresh ideas, new acts, new art forms and vibrant new ways of working. We can't stand still. We embrace the new, the quirky the original and yes, the surreal.

Sorry this was awful, really disappointing visit. An incredible building of nothing really. This was our 3rd visit in the hope things were improving but sadly not.

I used to vist the arts centre at least once every 6 months, and when I did it was always a pleasant experience. The venue is small (like SMALL) but has great character. I have seen Stephen Amos, Wild Beasts and Ben Howard (before he was popular, how hip!) at this venue and the performances were great. But in the... More

Love the eclectic mix and variety of audience - please support this outstanding venue. Whether its comedy, live music or A N Other you will find it - often a place for bigger acts to try out new material.

Been to three of their Wednesday 'Pay what you can' nights and have not been disappointed. These wonderful evenings have been truly exciting. Hard to describe their genre except to say each has been unique and genuinely entertaining. The 'Ted Bundy Experience' was a delight. Who is the serial killer? Are you sure it isn't you? Hugely entertaining and made... More

Over the last few years we have been to the Arts Centre many times. It never disappoints. We usually go to music events but they cater for everyone.

A great longstanding local venue championing a range of the arts.gigs, comedy and much more! Most recently I attended the annual Colchester CAMRA beer festival there - great atmosphere and definitely worth a visit in the future.

Colchester Arts Centre is a fantastic place. Beautiful building (it's an ancient church, dontchaknow??) with great events. The 'wonderful wednesdays' season of ground breaking performance art is NOT TO BE MISSED! (and at 'pay wot you can afford' - what's stopping you??). Seriously, get along there - it's great!

I took my mum to the Warm and Toasty Club. What a brilliant Sunday afternoon we had . It was an eclectic mix of music, comedy , social history , history and tea and toast . Jonno Casson producer and host of the show is truly talented. He "gets" family , friends, entertainment and warmth . This show in this... More
