What a fantastic building well worth a visit for the architecture alone. Hard to find the place with a strange entrance road. Interesting Roman Floor Mosaic but no back story! Empty of visitors. When someone decides on a proper use it will attract a good audience

Lovely to go for adult time but equally my children loved the retro discos (but not as much as their dad).

Weird place, weird people, very weird cafe & i got a very dirty mug! I only used the cafe as a stop off point. Waited half an hour for toast, my coffee mug was dirty, my jam came straight out the jar & the female serving really wasn't very polite. If you want wacky you,ve got it at this place!... More

Having supported this venture originally, we decided to visit it again to see how it was faring. The building is great but the exhibitions are really limited and the one we saw - not exciting. The area surrounding Firstsite does not attract - very run down and grubby. Firstsite would be a great vehicle for local modernist artists and I... More

But it isn't. I spent a lot of time defending the amenity before it opened. A "white elephant" people said before it actually opened. As it was being built I thought how beautiful it was and was really looking forward to the exhibitions and other events. My wife and I went to see a free showing of Nuts in May... More

Colchester is very lucky to have Firstsite. Built on what was once the site of a massive concrete car park with a bus station underneath (where I spent much of my youth going to and from school), this bold new building is rather striking. And I like the grass that’s been planted around it, an oasis in the middle of... More

I visited firstsite last year. should be called farcesite. what a waste of space, the viewing rooms were large enough to house buses but there was only a few exhibits in each room, and dimly lit. the cafe is probably the most expensive in colchester, quite a nice gift shop though. as an art gallery i'm afraid it fails miserably,... Under new stewardship with Anthony from the Colchester Arts Centre, FirstSite has turned a corner for me, which is super funny as it's a banana-shaped building. There's a popup cafe in the foyer and mini-golf along the corridor, and who doesn't like cup cakes and a quick putt? I often went to FirstSite only to use the loos or pop... More

What a strange experience. We fully support money being spent on new galleries such as this- it's the sort of place that makes us chose to visit a town like Colchester. The Gallery has an exciting design and is extensive. Outside the paved areas were being used as a skate park and the landscaping was already showing signs of deterioration.The... More

A great place hidden from general view and with a diverse range of activities and exhibitions. It's such a shame Firstsite is so difficult to find and is not well positioned for convenient parking. When you get there it is a stunning piece of architecture with some interesting stuff going on as well as some local history to explore.
