The hospital was really an early 18 /19th century care home for former soldiers and the homes around the courtyard at the rear are still in use as such for qualifying Stamford residents. A fascinating place.

When the rich had consciences and felt their obligations. Beautifully designed accommodation from 1500's.

What an interesting a place to visit! My partner and I decided to visit Browne's Hospital on a whim and we were surely glad we did. It has a very interesting history and the elderly gentleman who was attending to it that day was a lovely and a wealth of information. It's not a huge place so it's not going... More

An interesting detour to visit this ancient building and learn about its history and past residents. We were glad we popped in. The entrance fees although not really value for money go to the upkeep of the buildings and are therefore a contribution than any visitor should be pleased to make - we were!

One visitor says entry should be free to local residents. The reason we have a small entry free is that we have no outside funding to run this almshouse for 13 residents and a very expensive set of Mediaeval buildings to maintain which cannot be covered by the "rents" of residents only. We have no paid staff at the Hospital... More

Chance to look round this ancient building inside and out. The chapel is lovely as are the cloistered gardens. This building really should be free to local people who walk past it everyday and have never been inside. It was free at one time. However the entrance fee is quite small and guide mr goodison is very knowledgable. Whilst we... More

Well worth the visit. Enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. Very enlightening. You would not believe you are in the heart of Stamford, peaceful and only yards from the hustle and bustle of the busy Broad Street.

In the heart of Stamford a rather secret place. Do have a look at this alms house with a great hall.
