It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm. « less

Wakefield Cathedral is a place to put on your itinerary if visiting Wakefield. A quiet place to relax for a break in your shopping. It has a calm and welcoming aurua although at the moment it is undergoing extensive renovation. Not sure about this as I liked the original seating etc. Time will tell if this will be an improvement... More

I agree with all the positive reviews about Wakefield Cathedral. It is a wonderful building and has a great programme of events to suit everyone. Having attended some of these over the years, I know they are always well organised and very good value for money. However, the Cathedral also has a very good Cafe in the Treacy Memorial Hall,... When visiting Wakefield for the Hepworth Gallery we noticed that the Cathedral had a free lunchtime recital on Tuesdays at 1pm so we went to hear it. This week it was two young pianists playing five movements from The Pastoral Symphony by Beethoven. We were greeted by a member of staff handing out programs and directed to a table where... More

Living in Wakefield, one doesn't always have something to boast about but the Cathedral is one of them. We go in most times we're in Wakefield to light candles for the dearly departed and say a wee prayer or two. My daughter loves learning about Biblical figures and looking at the architecture. It has the serene atmosphere one would expect... More

The beautiful Gothic Cathedral is located in the centre of Wakefield, surrounded by shops. The interior is lovely with its stained glass windows & stone & wood carvings. Unfortunately they are selling some Victorian pews to raise funds for refurbishment.

The cathedrel is in a pedestrian area retaining its own grounds and is very plesent in summer. It is a hansome church in traditional style and dominates the imediate area. Inside it feels suprisingly small and actually has few features that are different to other gothic style churches. A small path down the left side leads under the Raven Taven.... More
