It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm. « less

We visited Wakefield Cathedral one sunny weekday morning. I went with my parents and 4 year old daughter. The Cathedral is situated right in the centre of Wakefield shopping centre so if your looking for somewhere quiet and tranquil to visit i would not have this as a first choice but once inside it is rather lovely. The architecture is... More

The cathedral is lovely to walk around. The touch screen by the western entrance is a really helpful summary to the building and development of the cathedral over time. The volunteers were welcoming and knowledgeable. I loved the modern stained glass and sculpture in the eastern end of the cathedral. A lovely spot of calm in the city centre -... More

We felt welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. We were greeted by one of the volunteer guides who explained the layout and advised that a service would be taking place at 12.30 in case we wished to visit St. Mark's Chapel first. He also drew our attention to the features of the stained glass windows. We purchased... More

We spent an enjoyable hour or so looking around. It's a lovely place to visit while in Wakefield. The ambience inside is very calming, with lots to look at including many memorials, beautiful stained glass and more than one place to light a candle and a quiet prayer or reflection. The only thing I didn't like are the modern chairs,... More

Went here while they were renovating, been since and it is a fabulous cathedral, the volunteers who manage it are very knowledgeable, and are extremely enthusiastic about helping you and to guide you around even, well wortha visit if you are in Wakefield? If you have 40 minutes to an hour to spare in Wakefield city centre on Tuesday at 1 pm from September to July you would not do better than to visit the cathedral for a varied programme of music concerts performed by very talented musicians on a variety of instruments. The beautifully renovated cathedral interior really lends itself to this... More
