For over 1000 years, people have been gathering in this holy place to offer their prayers and praise to Almighty God. As they still do every day. It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm.

When we visited the cathedral was full of small children. It felt friendly and welcoming. The wood carvings were particularly impressive.

While this cathedral isn't as big as others we've visited, the atmosphere inside more than makes up for it. A peaceful area within the bustling town centre of Wakefield, this beautiful cathedal is a lovely place place to take a few moments to reflect and appreciated this amazing building as it really is a hidden gem.

The size hardly justifies the epitome cathedral. Still worthwhile to stroll around for half an hour. Close to shopping centre.

Most of central Wakefield is decaying 19th century post-industrial buildings. Suddenly in the middle of town is a 15th century masterpiece. Enjoy the superb tower and spire that dominate the town (restored by the Victorians) and marvel at the slender pillars in the nave. If you are in town a visit is justified: otherwise I see no reason to divert... More

Ideal for a moment's reflection and an interesting building too. Open most of the time and right in the heart of the city.

Had not visited for a few years. What a glorious place to visit. The stained glass windows are a force to be reckoned with. The organ is something to be proud of. A place well worth going to for quiet contemplation.

Really much more beautiful than I had expected from the outside - the windows are quite awesome. Obviously refurbished but in a most sympathetic way - however, the locals I spoke to had mixed feeling about the replacement of the old oak pews with modern chairs.

the tallest church in Yorkshire this old and well put together cathedral is good for a walk though. The only comment I would make is that it could do with a little explanation or signage about when it was buil,t how it was developed and so on.

A lovely peaceful sanctuary right in the heart of Wakefield. A spacious interior with really helpful signage explaining the history and religious context of the interior.

My only doubt would be that access in my wheelchair was a little difficult but, when the first church was built over a thousand years ago, that wouldn't have been an issue.
