This is a small venue, with a limited number of exhibits which costs [July 2014] £4.95 to get into. BUT, the building itself and two of the exhibits ["Locomotion No1" and "Derwent" are so key to the history of railways not just in UK, but the whole World, that it really is a must-see for anyone with even the slightest... Darlington Railway Museum is an undiscovered gem tucked away in a corner of Darlington. The station is light and airy and the graphics well laid out giving an overview of Darlington's history alongside that of the railways. The highlight of the collection is of course Stephenson's Locomotion no 1, the first steam engine to work on public railways and similar... More

It works out cheaper to get the train to Shildon and explore the free entry train museum there where there is a lot more to see.

This old station is so well arranged. It is like going back in time. Quiet with room to move. Light and airy and all the stuff you want to see. I'm old enough to remember stations when they were like this and then there are the extra bits!

I was prepared to be let down after reading a number of reviews, but I was perhaps a little less disapponted than I had expected to be. Five pounds admission and limited opening hours are frustrating, but the main exhibition is well worth the money, The focus is very much on the S&DR, NER and successors, and is very interesting.... Wanted to visit Shildon but after queueing in the car realised we were not going to be successful decided to go to this museum again as haven't been for many years. £4.99 per adult £3.75 concession. Closes 3.30pm. Car park and overflow. Very informative boards to read and memorabilia. Gives long history of Darlington and the area. A few engines... More

A museum which rightly concentrates on the world's first commercial steam railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The museum hosts the original locomotive and others illustrating the development of steam locomotives in the area and much more about Darlington. The museum is bright, well laid out and with a wealth of posters, pictures and exhibits. A must for enthusiasts but... More

This is a really great railway museum and is on the original Stockton & Darlington Railway. The Stephenson's Locomotion is on exhibit and comes from near where I was born, so I have now seen it twice, once here and at York, there are heritage buildings which are pleasant, worth a visit for the enthusiast and others alike.
