The museum isn't very big but there is enough to keep you interested for an hour or so, longer if you have small children, as there is an activity room which was manned by a very helpful lady who encourages children to be creative. Stockton is unique as the birthplace of the railways and for this reason alone makes it... More

Very well worth a visit. Small and compact but with some fantastic exhibits from the birthplace of the passenger railways.

Whilst there was an entrance fee to this museum unlike Shildon we enjoyed this much more. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the exhibits were excellent. There was no café but the staff make tea/coffee etc on request and there are tables & chairs alongside the exhibits to use, such fun. There is a Morrisons with a restaurant... More

This is a council run museum so there is a charge £4.95 for adults. It's well run if a little small. There is however no denying the importance of it's collection - Locomotion the first engine to draw a commercial passenger service in 1825 is there. Check online to see what special exhibitions may be on, at the time of... More

The reception was friendly and with helpful advice. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering around the exhibits, especially looking at the historic locomotives. Compared with the nearby Shildon museum, this one is quite small, but it is full of interest.

I've visited a few times over the years each time i have enjoyed it. It has some great trains this is a great attraction for a family day out. Please note that there is no cafe onsite. It is worth a visit if your in the local area.

This small railway museum has some of the earliest examples of engines from the 19th century however it does not open until 11 am and it is very expensive for its size. Some of the interactive exhibites for children are very good and the information othboards are interesting about the town of Darlington and its development. A short video helps... More

We discovered this by accident on a visit to the north-east. It is a super little museum with lots to see of interest and very helpful staff. The history of the railway and of the town is described beautifully -a brilliant find!

We loved coming here with our infant son. Great exhibits and lots of really great information. Not too big to walk!
