Prince Alexander Obolensky (1916-40) had Russian parents but was a naturalised Briton. His most famous rugby exploit was in scoring two tries for England in their thirteen to nil defeat of the New Zealand All Blacks in 1936. At the outbreak of war he joined the RAF as a pilot but was sadly killed at nearby Martlesham in 1940. This... More

this is one of my favourite statues in Ipswich, it is in a good location on st Nicholas street and is quite inspiring. you can read a brief history of what this man did once he arrived in our country and fought for us in the war as a pilot. great dedication.
