We stayed at the waterfront hotel very nice! The area is as said before areas are great and some are pretty awful. Lots of unfinished buildings Ipswich council have tried to improve this with children's art but it's a lame attempt as the unfinished buildings are make a big eye saw. The boats are great and you can get up... More

If you have the misfortune of having to visit Ipswich, then you should at least make the waterfront an item on your itinerary. Redeveloped and revamped it is quite beautiful with a number of both chain and non-chain restaurants, pubs and bars, and it's where the University of Suffolk lives. Lively.

Ipswich waterfront hosts a range of great bars and restaurants from modern Aurora at one end, via the University's Cult Bar, the brilliant Loch Fyne seafood bar, iconic Isaacs, Pizza Express, and the excellent Waterfront restaurant, through to the DanceEast Cafe, and finally not forgetting the Last Anchor with its scenic views over the Marina - there is literally something... Just read the review slating the 'Cafe Marina' and I just sat wide eyed and gob-smacked as I read it, as this place is the only saving grace of the waterfront. The rest is a mixture of vulgar opulence and dereliction sitting uncomfortably side by side. An eyesore of decay melting in with a 'carpark' for boats. Whereas the 'Cafe... More

There seems to be much more to be done in this development. There are some attractive restaurants and cafes with views of the boats.

The Waterfront is by no means new having been opened some 10 years yet it still please me to see how the local planners rejuvenated what was an eyesore and made a pleasant destination for leisure living and entertainment.

It has to be said that Ipswich is not the most inspiring town because it seems to be a pretty poor area with a high level of immigrants but, once on the waterfront it is transcended to a much higher status. One can have a delightful stroll along the front and taking in the scenes of the quay with array... More

This is potentially a great part of the town, but as usual the parking is poor and expensive and there is no proper way to get to and from the main part of the town. So despite all the talk from the council about integration, none exists here. Also, but not the councils fault, are the abandoned developments that can't... More
