Much has been touted about the development of the former working docks in Ipswich. One gets the impression though that the clientele group the developers are targeting is the wealthy designer clad jet set. Sure it looks a lot better than the abandoned dump it was but it really does need to make it accessible for all

We were on a back-to-back cruise and took the train from Harwich port to Ipswich for a few hours to see what was there, before our ship sailed again. Although there appears to be an effort to improve the waterfront area (lots of construction), there is really nothing there at this time but a few restaurants and the marina. Would... More

This lovely harbor is dotted with fun spots. Briarbank Brewing Company boasts many great drinks, Sunday afternoon jazz in the carpark, and photos of dozens of the old pubs no longer open in UK. Lunch at Isaacs is a good bet: great fish at a reasonable price, and the view is free. It's a highly walkable city, with cobbled streets, window... More

There are a few nice restaurants, a pub and a superb hotel, but also a large student building which may make the place a lot more noisy in term time. However, the re-vamped areas allow for a pleasant stroll round the marina. In the evenings it is brightly lit and still seems safe and restful. Perhaps when the redevelopment is... More

It's still a work in progress, though well on the way, a walk around the waterfront with its cafes and restaurants is a great way to spend a summer afternoon/evening

Very peaceful location by the marina and can't be beaten when the suns out. Lots of choice for food and drink. Isaacs very popular. El Punto a bit different. Can get busy especially at weekends, so best to book.

I cycle very regular to the Ipswich waterfront it is lovely. Work in progress a project of this size takes years. Some lovely bars and cafes to enjoy the beautiful harbour and boats make this a must for a stroll or cycling. We are lucky to have this in the heart of our town.

With it's array of bars and restaurants as well as a top hotel the area is well worth the visit. On a sunny day with the bars busy and the yachts in harbour this would rival many more exotic places and with the ever developing University a great place to visit.

Restaurants are more expensive than in town. More development in progress. Like the festivals twice a year, would like to see more organised. Lack of public toilets, parking, taxi ranks and public seating areas.
