This is Norway's only preserved medieval monastery. The drive from Stavanger is about 30 minutes and goes through beautiful coastal and rural landscapes. The place has a very fascinating history, but it could be presented better. So read up before going there! More

The location is great in a calm environmet surrounded by grazing sheep and the sea. Very peaceful. The buildings are old and nice, but not kept in the best state. Nothing added to the building itself - no guides dressed up as munks or similar. The garden is also just a big lawn - no herb garden. In other words... More

A place with an interesting history, ghost stories, but not easily available to the brief visitor. Better if you prepare before you get there. Hold Shakespeare plays (in English), and the occasional concert, also worth doing. More

The only preserved middleage Monastry in Norway. Both the monastry and the surroundings have still an almost sacred atmosphere. I went to a concert there, quite an experience! More

Half an hour’s drive from Stavanger lays the most spectacular Covent from the middle ages in beautiful surroundings. We came as a group of colleagues and got a very interesting tour. Lots of historical facts, plus the guide’s personal experiences with the ghosts that are said to live there. Lovely weather made a trip around in the old garden with... More

A lovely drive takes you to this old church with lots of character in a delightful setting close to the sea. A pleasant walk round the church is a must. More

This cloister is very well preserved and its history is fantastic. It is almost unique as the norwegians usually built in wood. If you are lucky you can eat some local delicassies. More

One of the most beautiful mediaval abbeys, situated on an island in the Stavanger fjord area. Easily accessable by car and definitly worth the 45 minute drive. Close by also a charming fjord hotel and restaurant. More
