The view is fantastic, you can see all the Sunnmørs-alps. On first floor is a restaurant of middle reputation. We have only ordered coffee there.
The view of the town, fjords, high mountains, islands and even the ocean is just Incredible. the food in the cafeteria or the restaurant is very good. during the summer season it might be noisy because of all the cruise passengers visiting the cafeteria.
As expected, the world-known view from Aksla and Fjellstua is spectacular. The owner and manager of this restaurant however seems to resent people in general. They close the kitchen before closure time, charge you for a toilet visit, and even charge you for a glass of tap water. If you bring your own water, you'll be chased out, as you're... More
Walk the steps up from the city to view everything from above. This viewpoint has a wonderful view of Alesund and the surrounding area. You can look to the west and see islands of Giske and Godoy which are interesting in their contrast - Giske is low (a glacial moraine) and Godoy is a rocky block. Old German fortifications are... We were here in January, and there didn't seem to be a bus running, but we would have walked anyway. Every time we turned a corner, the view was better than the last. The cafe wasn't open. I guess they shut during winter, but we had the place moe or less to ourselves. The 360 view from the very top... More
Just like any observatory on a hill, and pricey at that! I would not say it was bad, but seriously, nothing more than a view, and boring up there once you have soaked in the views. For the price I paid, it was not fantastic, and I would not go back a second time.
You have the options of walking the 400 or so steps from the city park to the Mt. Aksla/ Fjellstua or take the tourist train/taxi. The views from here over the surrounding islands, the mountain ranges and Ålesund is wonderful especially at sunset. Its a must do if you are visiting Ålesund.
This was on our list of things to do when we visited Alesund. We had perfect weather and did the walk up the stairs earlier in the day before a lot of the crowds came. It's an amazing view. Bring a camera and be sure to have some time to just sit at the top and enjoy the view.
Either walking up the trail or driving up to the view point, this is a great way to check out the beauty of Alesund. The view from the top is pretty epic, especially on a clear day like it was in October. Really glad we saw this review prior to heading out.
Like: A great view of the city of Alesund and the surrounding islands. Dislike: Concession stand in the basement charged 33 NOK ($5.50) for a bottle of COKE which is usually $1.00 in the USA. This was the highest price I ever paid for a soda in Norway
