From Sukkertoppen (The Sugar Top), you can get a magnificent view with both city, coast and fjord in one! From the centre of alesund you can drive, bicycle or take the local bus to Hessa and eventually park at the primary school, just west of the roundabout in Hessaskaret. Cross the road above the school and follow the Sukkertoppvegen westwards until you find the sign where the path starts, at the right by number 22. The path is gravelled in the beginning, passes a grove and the path is clearly visible (but might be wet and dirty) all the way to the top. You are past half the way when passing the transmitter mast. An unforgettable view expects you!

Amazing ocean/city views after a small hike.

Medium easy hike if you are used to hike. Great views to the sea and the city (on a sunny, cloudy day). A lot of people bring their kids up.

Really a fantastic view of Aalesund and the surrounding areas. Has really gotten popular amongst both locals and tourists. You may choose what ever trail you want, they all lead to the top. Be aware that the trails are natural with mud, roots, grass and rocks. You need good footwear. Halfway up you rise above the vegetation and get nice... More

If you're visiting Alesund, there is no exceptions! You must climb up to this mountain! Feels amazing,I am so proud of myself to climb to the top. Especially when it was mud and wet,it was a bit of challenging to me. But the view after, from the top, redeems all your efforts :) there is a notebook on the top where you... More

The "Sugar top" is an easy climb and suits most in reasonable shape. The starting point is about 5 km from Ålesund city centre. Instead of finding out about transportation to the starting point, I really recommend that you walk all the way as it doesn't take you more than an hour. From Ålesund centre you walk West along the... More

The TA map points to Sukkertoppen at the exact location where the city's tourist info centre is located - at the centre of the city. Misguiding. Since i had read up on the place, courtesy fellow TA contributors, the 'near me' option on TA map got me all excited. Couldn't make it coz of improper timing. Would request anyone who... More

We caught the bus from the towncentre and thoroughly enjoyed the leisurely walk and stunning views of the area. We had hoped there would be path down towards the aquarium but there wasn't bet still enjoyed the walk around the headland and back into town. I

Recommended by a friend and also trip advisor reviews and it was everything described. Decided to walk from hotel Brosundet - around 5 k which takes you through the old part of Aalesund, some lovely homes along the way. Found the road sign for the turnoff, but missed the one for the track between the houses - it's smallish and... More

We did this hike on a rainy day. Although the view on the way up was impossible to see, but while climbing down the view was perfect.

This is a challenging climb that requires proper footwear. We were given the impression by the town tourist office that the 618 bus takes you right to the top but it only drops you at the base of the climb. We were unprepared for the extent of the hike up.

We did this hike on a sunny day and it was perfect. About 50 minutes to the top with plenty of stops along the way for pictures. The view at the top is spectacular. Highly recommended.
