Description: The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known...
The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known attractions. Floibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, 150 m from Fisketorget - the fish market - and Bryggen wharf, and it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the lower station from where the cruise ships dock along Bryggen. The journey up to Floyen (320 m above sea level) takes 5-8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself, and at the top you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen. Check out the view right now from our webcam of Bergen seen from Floyen. There are endless opportunities for walks on Floyen, and you will also find a cafe, restaurant and children's playground. The funicular runs daily all year round from early morning to late evening (check our departure times).

The funicular up mount Floyen is conveniently situated near Bryggen and a few minutes' walk from the Tourist Information office at the Fishmarket. I have been on several funicular railways and this one did not stand out in any way; it was efficient, crowded and the view from the carriage was nothing special. At the top, however, the views across... More

We rode the funicular to the top, which was an experience. The view was great..along the way you learned the history of this cable system..get there early as the lines are long...but well worth the trip..

It's a nice place to walk + you've got a great view from above. The walk down is beautifull with ranging landscape.

This is a must go spot when you are in Bergen. Talk a slow walk up and be fascinated by the many different views on the way up. The view of Bergen city from the top is breathtaking. Highly recommended!

The funicular ride is very quick. Not a lot so see on the way. The views from the top were stunning. If the weather is good we would have gone for a walk about the top and down. But the drizzle meant we caught the funicular down too.

Very slick, fast, quiet trip up the mountain, but it was even better to walk down via the trails to the city. It was foggy the day we went (I think it usually is), but even the fog and mist were picturesque in that beautiful setting.

We took the little train/tram up, and then walked down after enjoying the view and letting the children (5 and 7) play in the large playground. The walk down takes about 45-55 minutes and walking shoes or sneakers are a good idea.

Yes, the ride is a kick. But walking in the woodland behind and above the viewing station was really amazing! Tons of hidden trails through the mossy underbrush, often leading to wonderful lookout points with benches. The gravel roadways are also great experiences, with nice climbs that lead to picturesque, reedy ponds ringed by wooden pathways over marshland. Be on... More
