Description: The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known...
The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known attractions. Floibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, 150 m from Fisketorget - the fish market - and Bryggen wharf, and it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the lower station from where the cruise ships dock along Bryggen. The journey up to Floyen (320 m above sea level) takes 5-8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself, and at the top you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen. Check out the view right now from our webcam of Bergen seen from Floyen. There are endless opportunities for walks on Floyen, and you will also find a cafe, restaurant and children's playground. The funicular runs daily all year round from early morning to late evening (check our departure times).

The Floibanen provides a quick ride up the mountain. On the trail to the City Center (to the left of the playground), we discovered a troll forest with carvings and painted rocks - a troll garden. Look for the "no witch flying" sign posted on a tree. Walking down to Bergen through the forest gives you a nice walk.

As with anything in Norway this is quite expensive. However we had bought a Bergen card as this is convenient when visiting museums and this also gives you money off the funicular. We have been before but this still does not detract from the excitement of travelling up the mountain in this way. We were lucky that on this day... More

We unfortunately went when there were a few cruise ships in the harbor so we had to wait in line and in Bergen that means you have to wait in the rain. But it was still worth the wait as it is wonderful views from the top....if you have access issues make sure you check out where the elevator is... More

If in Bergen this is something you must do. The views are breathtaking and there was a nice cafe at the top to enjoy tea and a view from the top of the world

Beautiful view from the top. Ask for a trail map when you buy your tickets. Nice walks around the lake once you get to the top. The gift shop has some of the best prices we found in Norway. We bought a one way ticket and walked back down about 45 minutes to the city. This is our favorite place... More

the only way to describe Bergen weather is "yuck" .... The rain detracts from what would otherwise be a fun place to visit.

Would be good with sunshine which we never had! Bergen card only covers half the entrance fee. Try to sit in the front car (the first one).

One of the best view over the city the Funicular will take you to the top of the Mount Floyen. Then you’ll be 320 meters above sea level . The amazing views over the surroundings islands are unforgetable . You can get there by the bus hop on hop off. It is really cold , take some extra coat, scarf... More

Took the Funicular railway to top of Mount Floyen. Although it is not widely advertised, there is a reduction in price ticket for people aged over 67 (a return trip for the price of an adult single trip). No ID proof required. Quick and smooth journey. Don't be put off by the queue - it moves rapidly, each car taking... More
