After king Christian IV founded the city in 1641 he made plans for how to protect the city. This fortress was built as another one did not give enough support to the defense. The building finished in 1672. Today it is a tourist attraction and used for cultural events. From the inside you have a good view of the sea... More

A small fortress but woth having a look at. It also has some nice scenic views to the harbor. It's located minutes from the center so don't skip when exploring the town.

Took a walk along the waterfront and stumbled upon this fort. Walked around the grounds as the fort itself was closed.

it has a beautiful view over the bay, but that's it.. it's nice for a stroll after lunch and to take family pictures while you are in Kristiansand :-)

We was just walking around a bit, and instead of walking past we went in. Not much to see, but it's okay to have been there. It's a kind off thing that is been there done that. Noting more nothing less.

We walked the grounds of this small fortress as part of our self-guided walking tour of Kristiansand. It is located on the waterfront near the cruise ship dock, which was our starting point during our cruise. There are large shade trees, old cannons, and part of the old wall overlooking the bay which gives you a chance to relax during your... More

They advertise that the fortress is "open" 0900-2100. I don't know what constitutes "open" but all we got was a look at the outside. It was interesting, but kind of like walking around the outside of a closed museum. It is nice and a pleasant place to relax, but little more. I killed time giving the cannons a careful look,... THe small little fortress in the Kristiansand Harbor is free and worth a quick visit. It is not large but is quaint and has nice views. The interior has be renovated and repurposed.

While the history of the fortress is very interesting, it certainly isn't of the caliber of other fortresses such as the large fortress in Oslo. Regardless, it's worth a visit and a stroll around the grounds. The scenery alone is worth the visit.

This i a circular stone fortress intended to defend Kristiansand from possible enemies. You walk to the top on a circular wakway. It has 8 bronze cannons facing the sea. From the top floor you will have a nice view of the sea. Today it is used for cultural and other events, it can also be rented for private festivities.... More
