Small but very nice

It is a very interesting place. Specially in Winter when it's cold outside :) I would recommend it to everyone but don't expect any special effects :)

The butterfly house housed very few butterflies and was very small. Our 10 minute visit left us very disappointed as from the outside it looked very spacious and interesting but there was very little information inside and the right hand side of the building is actually a cafe.

The only real reason we visited was because the snow and wind were too bad to do anything outdoors, but that said, this was a lovely well-presented butterfly house with some beautiful butterflies and plants to see. There was an incubator by the door with many different chrysalises so it was very interesting.

I stopped in the butterfly and palm house while walking around the area with my friend. We failed to realize that it's incredibly hot and humid inside of the house. It was 90 degrees that day so we could only tolerate being inside the even hotter butterfly house for a short time. Inside there were a lot of butterflies but... More

Quite small and slow to get around with a stroller because I had to consistently stop/go back and let people pass. I only saw 3 types of butterflies. Expected more for the money.

When you realize what an incredible achievement this is, perhaps it can be appreciated. A very old biological experiment that is still alive after centuries. It is supposed to be very hot. It simulates a tropical environment at an extremely northern latitude. You can see the pupae developing in glass boxes. The living specimens are stunning. Absolutely worth it!

Kids loved this place. There are some beautiful butterflies flying around and a few even sat on my children's hands which excited them very much. The entry fee is a bit high for the size of this place. It was just a tad humid inside, but I guess they have to keep it that way for the orchids and other... More

It was misleading from photos, the place is very small, very humid, do not see on a hot day. Besides that they charge 6 euros to see it. I would recommend you scare your money.

This was a lovely interlude for our family during a stay in Vienna. My children were absolutely fascinated by the large range of butterflies of all sizes that flitted around them (and sometimes landed on them). Well worth a visit.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
