I think it is overpriced for what it offers (6 euros). Been inside only 15 minutes and most of the butterflies that could be seen were high on the "windows". I think there were only 3 sorts of them. Expected more.

This was a surprise for me. I've done the usual sights in Vienna on my previous trips but I have just recently found out about this so I visited it on the last day of 2015. The ticket costs 6.50 euros and you walk in the palm tree house that houses the butterflies in their man-made natural habitat. So, it's... More

Schmetterlinghaus means The Butterfly House and is housed in an Art Nouveau-styled building in the center of Vienna on the edge of the Burggarten palace gardens and 200 meters from the Opera House. The entry fee was 5 Euros per person when we were there. The greenhouse is kept very humid and warm for the butterflies and the tropical plants... More

Schmetterlinghaus is a very pleasant place to take a break from sightseeing museums and historical sites. My friends and I visited it in winter, and the interior heat was a welcome change! The butterflies are everywhere, and if you stand still for a moment, its is very likely one of them will perch on your arm or shoulder! The interior... More

This is a really nice break from the busy streets in Vienna. This Schmetterlinghaus is right next to a chill parc where you can relax and if you are bored and feel like wandering around for about an hour or so, this is definitely the place to be. In my opinion it is a bit expensive to go since it... More

If you have a phobia of butterflies and stiflingly hot and humid areas, and you're willing to sacrifice 6 EUR for the experience, this is the place to go. At least the actual exhibition lasts only 10 mins. There's also a free documentary room in the back, where I learned through the limited German I understand that there's a breed... More

If you love schmetterlings you'll love this attraction, otherwise...why are you are you going to a schmetterlinghaus? I'll do the negatives first: very hot, very humid, not all that big, expect to see dead butterflies sometimes (hint: they look alive in photographs and hold still better. "Look ma! It landed right on my nose!"). On the plus side it is... More

We thought that this butterfly house was a great value for only 5 euros per person. There were not as many butterflies flying around as compared to other ones we have visited, but they were beautiful nonetheless. It was extremely warm inside, but peaceful with waterfalls and fish- filled ponds, as well as gorgeous flowers.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
