In the beautiful surroundings of a palace, there is the small hothouse of butterflies. It is a great collection with a water feature and a high up bridge for viewing. Personally, i did not like the butterflies and found them a bit oppressive but a great attraction if you can stand it.

A fantastic place to visit for both young & old. Such colour, diversity & enjoyment from seeing butterflies up close. Some butterflies even take up temporary residence on visitors! Every visitor was smiling which demonstrates how enjoyable a visit here can be. Boxty loved it too (see photo).

OK, if you are in Vienna and you think you have seen all those historical buildings and such, take a time and go to the Schmetterlinghaus (House of Butterflies). The place is especially great for a date or an education trip with kids. The house is a big winter garden turned into romantic forrest. The butterflies fly around you and... More

It's interesting, but small. You can see some (50 or more) flying and eating everywhere. It' isn't expensive, so, give ir a try. Don't bring a coat.

I could have spent hours in this place of serenity mystified by the behaviours of these beautiful creatures. They weren't shy; a couple even landed on me and fluttered their wings in modest display. Lovely temperature (naturally) which made it a nice escape from the brisk cold of Winter outside. There are some seats so if you like to draw... More

For 6€ each I was expecting more than what we got. There were only a few varieties of butterflies and maybe it was the time of year but I was expecting a larger volume also. The enclosure it's self was was beautiful. Overall while it was a nice experience I think for what you get it's a little pricey.

Having been to a beautiful butterfly garden a few years ago I was really looking forward to this. 6 euros entrance is far too much for what you get. Very few butterflies, only about 3 different ones, and you had to search for them. Small gardens that you could walk round in about 8 minutes. We were probably in there... More

You would think by looking at the Butterfly House from the outside that it would be actually a large place. After spending 30 Euros in entrance fee I again thought well it must be a large place with many butterflies. Wrong! This place is a joke. Unless you've never seen a butterfly I recommend you don't visit this place. We... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
