Spectacular Small Church

Give St. Stephans a quick look...climb the tower then high-tail it to St. Peters to see a truly impressive small Catholic Church.

Anyone who goes to Europe will attest to the fact that after awhile you can't see any more churches! However, with this viewpoint we went into; Saint Peter's. This particular church should not be missed. Although it looks tiny on the outside it is actually very large inside and not one bit of space as been wasted. It is stunningly... More

This is a must visit site in Vienna. The building is beautiful and very easy to access as part of a walking tour.

The interior is so beautiful. Please take time to enjoy, but keep in mind it's a place of worship. Located very close to Stephensdome, it's located where previously Charlemagne built.

Beautiful, historic and wonderful. A little touristy and too many concert sellers in daft costumes but a beautiful church

The religious community of Saint Peter is the oldest of Leuven. It was founded in 986, but the first church burned down so a new, much bigger Roman one, was build. The architecture is a typical example of "Branbant" art. The architects wanted to build three towers. The highest would be 170 meters, but when a hight of 50 meters... More

This beautiful Gothic church was constructed on a site of prior buildings that were first, early middle ages and then Romanesque. The artwork is beautiful, far nicer than the Stephansdom. The acoustics are also great and far nicer than Stephansdom.

I first visited this Church almost 20 years ago (in Vienna for business) and was blown away by the beautiful interior. Baroque at its very, very best. In the intervening years, nothing has changed. It's just how I remembered.

Although St. Stephen's Cathedral gets all the hype, this church is by far more beautiful inside. St. Stephen's is most impressive from the outside, while St. Peter's is most impressive on the inside. So be sure to go in and take a look.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
