I paid for the climb up the South Tower on a cold, crisp sunny February afternoon. It's 343 steps up to the viewing gallery with a small shop. The views of Vienna were breath-taking (as was the climb!) but well worth the effort. Thoroughly recommended.

This beautiful jewel is just off the main pedestrian stroll. With so many sites to see, it is easy to miss this beautiful church. There were very few tourists in the church the day we visited. It was very quite and another world from the busy streets. Several locals began entering and it was clear that a mass was about... More

We walked by this beautiful church everyday, but we were hesitant to go there because it didn’t seem like a tourist destination. We noticed an ad for a free organ concert, and we just happened to be in the area at the right time so we went in. The music was beautiful, as was the church. (I thought even more... More

St. Peter's Church is just off one of the main shopping streets in Vienna. Of all the churches we visited in this beautiful city, St. Peter's would have to be one of my favourites (if not the favourite!). It has an unpretentious exterior (compared to Stephansdom) but the interior is breathtakingly ornate with gorgeous ceiling frescoes. Well worth a visit!

The baroque facade is alluring and the turqoise details make it pop where it is and somehow you expect a humble interior but when you enter inside it's far from disappointment. It's all so beautiful.

It staggering that one city could have so many beautiful cathedrals - it does make it difficult to appreciate the splendor of them all. This is another great example of a building, somewhat plain on the outside having a striking interior. Unless your "cathedral-ed out" by the sheer volume of these structures it is worth a visit. If pushed for... More

If you've traveled all over Europe, you're probably jaded to cathedrals and basilicas, so this one is merely another average church. If you're in a crunch for time, don't hesitate to skip. If you love ornate interiors but haven't visited other spectacular places of worship like La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), St.Basil's Cathedral (Moscow), Notre Dame (Paris), or St.Peter's Basilica (Rome),... What a phenomenal 1700 Baroque church to stumble upon completely by accident. Wrong turn, big payoff. Photogenically in the excellent category, and so easy to include in your sightseeing plans while visiting the historic district of Vienna. Lavish doesn't even begin to describe it. Gold leaf everything, and beautiful craftsmanship. The domed cupola with it's fresco adorning it is truly... More
