We were there for the Christmas Market, but took the time to look around the plaza and the lights and decorations of the platz added to the whole effect. Worth going there even without the markets.

Having been to several Christmas Markets, this on stands out. Comprehensive, enjoyable and containing everything a 'typical' Christmas Market is expected to contain. The atmosphere is excellent and the gifts on offer not that expensive. A rest treat - wander at leisure - it finishes at 10pm each evening. Oodles of feed of all descriptions available and of very good... More

Wow! I have never been to a more breath-takingly beautiful Christmas market than here! The atmosphere, food, drinks, souvenirs, Christmas lights, music...everything was magical. If you are in Vienna at this time of year, it is a definite must-see!

We did not tour the Rathausplatz but the Christmas market is on the grounds there and it is a fun place for couples and families! Great food to taste, good hot wine, plenty to see and do. The trees have large lighted decorations in them. Some cupcakes, guitars, or stars they really looked good. Go at night when everything was... More

Although we did not go inside this beautiful building, I was in awe of this building. This was the background to the Christmas market whilst we were there which added to the 'magic' of the market below. Stunning

Well worth a visit. Lots to see food and drink. Public toilets out front but like most places around city a small charge is made.

Nice place. Rathaus building is amazing. Almost every time of the year there is something in happening on the square - some kind of festival or similar. It was next door to our hotel, so we started and finished our walking tours here.

We went here at night for a cinema fest where they set up a small movie screen and had food stands and during the day because there is a playground close-by. Across the street is the theater.

This has got to be the place to go if you like Xmas markets. The lights are beautiful and you really get that Xmas atmosphere. Plenty of choice for buying souvenirs & lots of food & drink stalls. A must is a the punch.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
