When visiting Vienna, you must absolutely go to Staatsoper - but don't do the tour, see a show! You can book tickets a month in advance on their website - if you search around for it, you can even find the translation button which allows you to book in English (though I still didn't know exactly what I was doing).... more

This is a beautiful opera house, although to tell the truth I found the one in Budapest more intimate and charming. The lobby is very ornate, but the actual auditorium is pretty plain. went to 2 productions werther and simon bocanegra early in october fabulous interior and you notice a sense of space that you just dont get in covent garden numerous bars and yes yet again as in the met prices roughly half from drinks programs to actuall seat prices.. did my online booking using the cultural link on the staatsoper website.... more
