We were expecting an English tour, were warned no stage tour. No English, we bailed after 30 min and credit to them they did give us our money back. English is only at weekends.

The Burgtheater is one of the most famous and most traditional German-language theaters, and many of the productions are inspiring, fun, and impressive. That said, Austria's slightly sloppy culture when it comes to administration, book-keeping, appointing the right political friends to the wrong positions has not stopped at the doors of this institution, and you will more likely find the... I went on the guided tour and it was excellent. There were more Klimt paintings on the ceilings and above the door than were mentioned, but you'll recognize them easily. Ticket sales are supposed to be 15 minutes before the tour starts. Today, they didn't start until after the tour should have started. I almost left to go elsewhere. I'm... More

Burgtheatre is one of the most important German language theatres in the world and a premiere venue for theatre performances in the city of Vienna. It is also one of many impressive and historic buildings that line the famous Ringstraße, which encircles much of the historic city centre. Burgtheatre's history reaches back to 1741, when then empress Maria Theresa had... More

I can only speak from my experience. my wife and I got there a little before 3 p.m. Door locked, four or 5 people outside. very unpromising. then exactly at 3 the doors opened. suddenly about 20 people began to straggle in and line up to pay 5.50 euros. then they separated us into two groups, one German ,one English... We wanted to see this magnificent building so we tried to join the guided tour on December 24th. We were waiting in front of the main entrance, but noone opened the door. After some minutes of waiting we realised that there will be no tour that day. I have checked once again on their web page, but there was no... More

This is a really nice building near Rathausplatz. It provides some nice photo-ops from the outside. We did not bother to take a tour inside as we already visited the more impressive opera building, and no English tours were available at the time. Still, worth a short visit if you are in the Rathausplatz area.

We asked the staff when they offered English speaking tours. We were told that the English tours were at 3:00. We returned at 3:00 and again asked for the English speaking tour. They assured us it was, took our money and the tour guide only spoke German. Save your money and go to the State Opera Theater.

Whenever I am in Vienna, I always make an effort to see a production at the Burgtheater or one of its sister theaters. Everything I have seen there has been OK to good, and ticket prices are extremely reasonable, especially when compared to ticket prices in English-speaking countries. If you join their mailing list, you will also receive an invitation... More
