My husband and I visited the Haus der Musik because of Rick Steves' glowing recommendation. We wish we hadn't. It is an odd mix consisting of a small museum of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, one floor of interesting tributes to great composers with Vienna connections, and a large number of interactive exhibits about sound (mostly). The exhibits are not well... more

We were thrilled! so many thing you can do yourself. Very "user-friendly"museum, we had fun like little kids..and maybe learned something too..As already in other reviews - the Masters of music floor was amazing. Highly recommendable for a couple of hours visit. more

I am a junior high music teacher and semi pro musician. When I read Rick Steve's glowing review of this museum, I made this a must-see on our June 2009 trip to Vienna. We (me, my husband, and 15 year old musician son) went on a half price evening. The reduced fee was about the best part of the trip.... more

Excellent visit, we spent two and a half hours there after thinking it would be an hour. Loads of interesting interactive exhibits, including writing your own Viennese waltz by throwing dice, and conducting and orchestra yourself! Also great stuff about mixing music and sounds and the physics of sound. Too much to really see and hear in one visit, fantastic... more

Sorry to say that if you are not five years old this place is not worth visiting. We enjoyed the Masters of music floor...but the rest should be best expierenced by young children. Decided to rate it a 3/5 becuase of the masters of music floor. more

But one caveat. The rooms are small and there are alot of interactive displays. We went on a weekday in winter and it was wonderful. But it must be horrible during the tourist season. Not meant for big crowds. Plan wisely. more

It is a generally held belief that Vienna is the Music capital of the world ; The House of Music confirms this. Very close to the Opera, the house of music is a museum totally dedicated to music and sound that opened in 2000. The building was a Habsburg palace where the founder of the philharmonic orchestra, Otto Nicolai, once... more

Absolutely this attraction is a must-see! It is wonderful for adults and children alike! Very interactive, but also educational (learning about the different composers)! It really has something for everyone! Our whole family was in agreement that this was a very worthwhile visit! It does take about 2.5 hours to go through all 4 floors of this museum without rushing,... more

The Haus der Musik is the perfect place to let your mind wander into the world of music. It not only gives you the history of Austria's great composers (each are dedicated a room with information and artifacts) but everyone is welcome to hear, touch, see and feel music. The Haus der Musik lets you sample not only classical music... more
