The Museum of Applied Arts is housed in a beautiful building with an impressive inner patio. This museum is a decorative arts museum and is one of the best in Europe. One can see tapestries, antique furniture, Art Nouveau, Persian carpets, glassware, crystal, porcelain, doors, cabinets, desks, and many other things used in houses. All of the items are properly... More of a technical museum, but interesting if you enjoy that sort of thing. More

Also known as the MAK, this museum is located on the ring and easily accessible on the Tram #2. It focuses on applied arts and design and is open free on Saturdays. Highlights of the permanent exhibition for us were the displays of Wiener Werkstatte (including all the furniture design drawings from this studio), Jugendstil (art deco & nouveau), Renaissance... We have visited this museum several times. On Saturday admission is free so this is good time to stop in. I think children and students are admitted free at any time. We have never found it crowded. There is a very nice restaurant and the shop is fun with lots of interesting contemporary gifts. Among many other things, there are... More

I had no plans to go until I had a free Saturday afternoon and found out that admission was free. The exhibits were really neat and some of the furniture on display was simply amazing. The gift shop had really fun stuff as well. More

We went here on Saturday when it was free and we still didn't care for this museum. My husband did enjoy the 50 cent e coffee vending machine by the couches. He said the coffee was actually better than what we got at our hotel. It did cost 2e to check the backpack @ the entrance. We went a bit... More

We enjoyed looking at the marquetry work on the cabinets, desks, chests, etc. Pieces went back to the early 18th century, most made in Germany and Austria. We appreciated the fact that the museum provides brochures in each room in various languages with captions telling you the age of a piece, what it is made from, etc. Right now there... More

Although I enjoyed this museum, my 11 year old daughter did not. TIP - if admission for children is free, then it's a good indication that they will be bored. But she was a trooper and stayed with me long enough to view their Biedermeier and Wiener Werkstatte exhibits (the main reason I wanted to visit) and even seemed to... More

We quite often get a bit jaded after seeing so many ornate Churches, Cathedrals and Palaces. This museum is an excellent respite. There is a wealth of interest - we particularly liked their very imaginative display of bentwood chairs, and a simply stunning display of ancient and elegant Korean porcelain. Lots of different areas, make sure they give you a... More
