This one's for the parents! Superb beer, brewed on site by Augustine monks, a beautiful beer garden, with genuine Oompah band! The only downside is that you may have some difficulty in getting seats - on the day we visited, it seemed like half of Salzburg had also had the same idea! Snacks are also available (the Scampi is gorgeous!)

This place is fantastic, not the easiest to find but well worth the effort. You help yourself to a stone mug and rinse in a fountain, pay for a 'strong or stronger' beer and get your mug filled with one of the nicest beers I have tasted. We sat in one of the three huge halls (like something out of... More

I read about this place in one of the Rick Steves blog and decided to go there. After climbing down from the Hohensalzburg fortress and exploring the old town, me nad my husband started to find out way to the Augustiner Brewery. We asked many people - local , tourists but nobody was exactly sure of the exact location. We... More

I absolutely loved this place. I wish there was something that came close to this in Rochester Ny... I would be there every week. The atmosphere is awesome. There are 3 very large drinking halls inside, and a huge beer garden outside. Tables, benches, Beer. Some people were eating some food, but i was pre-occupied with never ending litres in... More

We came here on the recommendation of other reviews and we were not disappointed. Friendly atmosphere, pleasant staff and a great drinking environment helped enhance what is one of the nicest beers we have ever tried. One small tip - despite what other reviews say, pick up and wash your mug first before going to the cash desk. That way... More

Great beer house. Really old and traditional feel to it, and located by the monastery as I believe the monks still produce it(?). Tasty light beer, bustling atmosphere with a mixture of locals and tourists.

As a beer house this is a pretty impressive place - three large halls inside and an enormous garden. You pay for your beer, grab a large mug, rinse it out (odd this) with water and then they fill it up with beer. Except they don't - there's so much froth that your litre is more like 2/3 of a... It's pretty much a must while in town. During the warm weather get at least one beer. In the winter stay for the afternoon! It's more the experience than the food or drink at this ancient, monastic beer hall, though I do like the food and setting.

If you want ice cold, fresh beer in a classic beer hall setting, you need to visit this place. We traveled through Europe from Brussels to Prague and this was one of our favorite stops. In our opinion, much better than the Hofbrauhaus tourist trap in Munich. You pick the size of your mug, pay for a fill and then... More
