Well-preserved old town

The historic buildings lining the river are very beautiful. Many restaurants and other shops are in this area.

This is the main reason you visit Salzburg! You have to make it a point to visit the old town. Take a hop on hop off tour to get oriented with the city and then walk around, it's very simple and small..

What Old Town in Europe is not cool? This is one of the best, though. Mozart was born here and later strolled the streets and performed as an adult. View of the castle above. As a hint, against the mountain, look for people walking in and follow. There are shops inside the mountain and a car park. The walls are... More

You can easily walk it on foot and the buildings and squares are beautiful. I'd just take a break and sit in a cafe in the square and watch the world walk by. The shopping areas were also great, with great shops.

We enjoyed discovering all the cathedrals, and tiny pastry and chocolate shops. Since Easter is next week the decorations along the streets made it fun to window shop. Do skip the visitors center for advice as they only seem to want to sell tickets and tours. We got better advice from our lovely hotel Mozart staff. There is enough to... More

Don't worry about not having researched enough about the city before prior to your visit. You'll be astonished by what you find. Just get lost around the streets of the Zentrum and do not forget to have an apfelstrudel at the Alter Fuchs on Linzer Gasse.

Salzburg's Old Town straight out of a fairy tale, just like the rest of the surronding area. Spend some time wondering the maze of streets and stop in the shops for a piece of candy or traditional handmade craft.

History, a castle, beautiful views, a river, bridges, cathedrals, old buildings and some of the most picturesque mountains all surround Salzburg - what's not to love?? It is very pedestrian friendly, but they also have a great bus system. Take your time, go slow and soak up all the history! One of our favorite towns!

I visited Salzburgs old town on a day trip while in Austria skiing. We arranged a mini bus/taxi driver to take us on a tour of all the main items of interest and then to drop us off at the main shopping street which was a quaint shopping street in the old town. He brought us to the main places... More

There is nothing better than strolling along the streets of Salzburg and Old Town. Just go "off season" when it's not so crowded. We were there in midMarch and the weather was great and not so crowded.
