Wonderful place, just have a coffee at Tomaselli before you have a walk through the little narrow roads. Many nice shops and many restaurants. Finally cross the river Salzach and go to the Cafe Bazar to sit in the sun and relax.

I highly recommend a tour of some kind; there are audio tours on line that you can download. We used Rick Steves'. Got lost a couple times, but learned a lot!

If you are in munich you can buy a ticket from Munich to Salzburg for 27 Euro return for 2 people. When you arrive at the Tourist centre a day ticket cost 3.30 Euro each. You have to catch a bus from the station into town. The old centre is like a step back. It is contained in a few... More

We had a great time walking around Salzburg's Old Town. The sights were magnificent, the locals were friendly, and the food was delicious. We took a horse & carriage ride around the town, bought pretzels from the outdoor market, enjoyed walking through the narrow streets, and visiting some of the quaint little shops and restaurants.

It's a feast for your eyes. Between the views of the mountains, and the beauty of the architecture and the history of the city, there's so much to soak in!

Salzburg hardly needs an introduction, but its old town is charming, pretty and varied with some serious historical interest and delightful cafes.

What a beautiful city to enjoy a "feel" for a special period in history. You will feel you have stepped back in time. Be sure to give yourself time to browse the shops and perhaps buy a little vial of a specialty salt. One shop had a wall made of salt rock. Not the color you would expect!

We went here on a weekend and as expected it was filled with tourists and locals alike. However, you will get lost with amidst the many old buildings and passages within this small yet rich old town of Salzburg. It is also very nice to visit towards evening where you can see the Salzburg fortress lit up.
