AS with most splendid locations you have to be prepared for the crowds. Salzburg's old town is no different. But you can enjoy its baroque wonders early in the mornings and late evenings in relative quiet after all the bus tours have gone. You need a few days to take it all in so suggest a hotel either within the... More

Easy to get around on foot to different tourist sights, with plenty of shops and attractions. Salzburg is a very clean and safe environment with cost comparable to any city in Australia

Walking in the old town and going up to the Castle Hohensalzburg is worth spending some hours. Shopping is also okay.

A magical area with so many sites and history! One of the cutest areas we have travelled to. Just the right size of a town to feel comfortable. Walking along the river at night was gorgeous!

Dismissing the many souvenir shops, Salzburg is loaded with history and unique things to do, such as climb up into the Glockenspiel to learn about it and see it in action. It's a walkable town, with easy public transport to nearby sights, for example, the Hellbrunn Palace and trick fountains (a lot of fun!).

So much to see and do - just walking round the old town is amazing. The river is beautiful and there are photo opportunities everywhere.

I have just returned from a few days in Salzburg and found it well worth the visit. The old town is full of charm. Mozart's birthplace is very interesting and also worth visiting. I learnt a lot about him that I didn't know. There are plenty of pavement cafes and restaurants around, Churches that are worth going inside and buskers... More

Pretty to look at and stroll around for a few hours. Nothing outstanding though and it can get absolutely packed with tourists in peak season which can kill the experience a bit. After visiting old towns in Kotor, Trogir, Rovinj and Split I just found it a bit underwealming and sanitised.
