My husband and I stayed 2 nights in Saltzburg at the hotel Europa as part of our train tour of Austria. The old town is at least a 20 minute walk from hotel. On our first morning there a tour company transit vehicle picked us up from the hotel and took us to the old part of town to connect... More

Salzburg's old town is very, very pretty and very walkable. It could not have taken more than 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other but I did it in several hours because I was just savoring the shops and the sights. There are some high-end shops but this isn't a city I would go to for shopping... More

Salzburg is the most beautiful city on earth! The old town is a must-visit for any visitor to Salzburg......historic narrow pathways, the beautiful shopping street Geitedegasse, the funicular up to the castle Hohensalzburg, Mozart Place and many other things make it a stunning place to cross the river and visit.

Beautiful city that offers something for everyone, Get your self a Salzburg Card for your stay and go mad and try and see as much as you can, great views over the city from the castle. Great shopping in the old town but cross the river for cheaper non tourist offers.

I would say we spent the majority of our three days in Salzburg in its old town. It was not wasted time. There are some amazing museums and shopping and restaurants there. Essentially, it's the heart of the town, and it is gorgeous. Professional opera singers are the street performers, which was amazing. They have a Christmas market---which I thought... More

We had a wonderful tour of the old town with Naomi Mogil (mogilnaomi1@yahoo.co.uk). She is extremely knowledgeable and provided us with an excellent tour based on our desires. We saw all the churches downtown, walked the wonderful streets, and Naomi provided us with just enough history. She also made many recommendations for other activities we could do to fill our... I love Salzburg, it is small and walkable. Although a town there are lots of traffic free zones and it is a peaceful old town.

many words can be used to describe this part of Salzburg...romantic, beautiful, picturesque all come to mind. Just wonder around and get lost in the lane ways. make sure you go to the Castle on top of the mountain.

One of probably the best Old Towns in Europe, Salzburg's Old Town is a must for visitors. Everything is just so lovely - from the chocolate shops with Mozart balls, the high-end boutiques, flower market, meat vendors and of course, several churches - you have them all in the Old Town.
