I love Salzburg, it is small and walkable. Although a town there are lots of traffic free zones and it is a peaceful old town.

many words can be used to describe this part of Salzburg...romantic, beautiful, picturesque all come to mind. Just wonder around and get lost in the lane ways. make sure you go to the Castle on top of the mountain.

One of probably the best Old Towns in Europe, Salzburg's Old Town is a must for visitors. Everything is just so lovely - from the chocolate shops with Mozart balls, the high-end boutiques, flower market, meat vendors and of course, several churches - you have them all in the Old Town.

I love this town there is always something to see and do here, shopping, visiting numerous attractions , fine dining or just a casual cup of coffee with too many deserts or pastries to choose from. You will want to return again and again!

Stroll around at your leisure. Still gobsmacked by this beautiful city. We stayed 5 days which for us was probably one day too many but still we had the opportunity to look around leisurely and explore the cemetary, sit down for coffees and do some shopping in the old town. Don't pass it up.

Walk up the slopes, walk along the castles and squares, walk the narrow lanes, enjoy the beauty for hours of this old town. Do it twice if possible. If you like Prague you will like it. Not as commercial as Prague but still a little. We liked the restaurants and bars in the new town better thought!

Worth two days, if you include the Sound of Music Tour. Don't miss the fortress on the hill, great views on a clear day.

If you set about designing from scratch a perfect place for wandering I don't think you'd do better than using Salzburg's old town as a template. We went just before Christmas & it was just magical! Beautifully festive, lovely old shops with coffee shops nestling along side - perfect for that warming glass of gluhwein or cup of hot chocolate.... More

It is nice to visit the old city in a 3-4 hours walk in the afternoon. Also it is a very good location for shopping and taking pictures.
