European Town of 19th Century

Birthplace of Mozart. On the Banks of Salzburg river. This place will revive your idea of European town a century back. Relaxed atmosphere. There are even horse drawn carts

One of the most romantic and beautiful old town I have been to. Remember to visit the Domquartier & St Peter Abbey!

Lovely for a stroll but way better on a bike. We spent the morning dodging walkers but lots of great options for lunch and plenty to see and do around Salzburg

A nice quaint and place to walk through. Factor half a day to spend at the old town, unless you would want to spend more time at the museums

Salzburg is a lovely city, with many narrow alleys to wander in addition to squares, fountains, numerous churches and historical buildings. Unfortunately, right now there is a lot of construction going on, so it is quite noisy and there are lots of metal construction plates covering holes in the sidewalks. I did feel bad for the workers trying to dig... More

The old houses on narrow streets certainly have their charm. Shops are expensive and the crowds were really hectic on a Saturday in beginning of August. The old Cathedral was really nice.

I would extol the virtues of purchasing a Salzburg Card as soon as you arrive in the city. When I arrived in the lovely modern Railway Station from Munich I walked across to the tabacconist shop and purchased a card for 48 hours - 36 euros.
