Have been coming to Salzburg for many many years and whilst to some - the old town may appear kitsch - to me it is beautiful. Genuine, historic, accessible, interesting .... And the setting is so stunning. Perhaps a little over tourist-ed - but truthfully - what else would you expect. Parking is easy; buses are accessible - and all... More

A little fairytale of a city! Old Town in small enough yet big enough. Mountains to climb, Mozart to visit, boat trips on the Salzach River to enjoy the views and a totally wondrous fortress to explore. Nooks and crannies and arched pathways make ambling about in Old Town such fun. Tons of stairs if you choose! Explore bizarre catacombs... More

There are several walking tours of this great place. My favorite is Rick Steves where you can even download his app and listen to him as you follow his tour. There are many courtyards that are large and the history dates back hundreds of years. There are great views of the fortress from many of the areas in the old... More

Pretty old town, nicely situated with big Fort overlooking the town. Worth a half day visit, including the Mozart house

I booked a 3 night stay in Salzburg ans was worried that it was a bit too much. Once I got to the old town I wished I had stayed longer. This place is just amazing, crowded but still peaceful. Will stay longer next time

To people like me, who is more of an Art fan rather than a music fan, Salzburg is not my cup of tea but still worth visiting because the movie 'Sound of Music' was shot there. The day I visited was a rainy one which made it a bit inconvenient to go around taking photos. I see some tourists, without... More

Salzburg is simply charming. It is no wonder that the crowds come, especially at the time of the summer festivals. As one roams the charming streets, musicians serenade the passing tourists. Concerts are available. If one can relax in the midst of the crowds, Salzburg is magical.

The town is incredibly clean, charming and full of history. There are many cafes with outdoor seating and shops to choose. The restaurant staffs speak english but some of the shop owners did not but that was not a problem because they were so helpful in trying to understand your needs. So the language barrier was really never a problem.... More

Very lucky to come during the music festival. We watched Romeo and Juliet opera on a very high tech screen, under the castle. The opera was in Italian with German sub-titles. Amazing experience.

Worth spending a couple hours wondering around the old town. There's some hidden gems of old narrow streets on the south side of the river and a monastery worth a walk up where you can get some great views of the old town and fortress.
