We attended Vespers and hearing the nuns sing was like listening to angels. Definitely worth it to go.

We climbed the steep steps to the convent on the last day of our holiday - in fact it was the last place we visited. The little church is dark and silent and there is an air of peace and calm about it. We lit a candle there and wrote in the visitors' book. The convent church is immortalised in... More

I returned this month 30 yrs after my first visit to Nonnberg abbey with a friend who'd been a novice there in the 1980s. Needless to say, the place hasn't changed much. It's a quiet, contemplative community, and a great place to visit if you want spectacular views of the surrounding burbs and hillsides. The beautiful convent church is worth... More

This Abbey was started in the year 713, and is the longest continuously operating nunnery in the world. This is a holy place, and we felt honored to be there. It is also the site where the real Maria Von Trapp and the Maria played by Julie Andrews lived whole discerning a vocation to become a nun.

This abbey is still in use so it should be respected upon visiting. Its just as it was in The Sound of Music. You are free to enter the abbey but silence is preferable. The views from the terrace outside are wonderful.

It is a hike to get up to the Abbey, and there is very little you can access--only the church and cemetery. Worth going if you are really interested. We were lucky enough to hear the nuns singing while we were in the church, which completely made the experience!

Was a bit of a hike to get to it but worth it for the views. The abbey its self was beautiful inside but the grounds are a bit of a let down.No photos are allowed inside due to it being a place of worship.

As a Sound of Music fan, I was overjoyed to see the Abbey in person. Its a bit of a climb up the Abbey, but there excellent views of the Alps and the city of Salzburg along the way. The Abbey itself is worth the climb. You are able to go inside the Abbey for free and when we were... More

Beautiful Convent made famous by the Sound of Music. Going inside you see where the real von Trapp wedding was. Worth visiting.
