Beautiful Convent

Beautiful Convent made famous by the Sound of Music. Going inside you see where the real von Trapp wedding was. Worth visiting.

The walk here from the main castle took me down a narrow and scenic cobblestone road hugging the steep cliff. Then you enter the convent. The cemetery greeted me first, with unique iron and stone adornments honoring every resident. I had the chapel almost to myself. The dust of ages hung in the air and filtered the bright sunlight into... More

This is a quiet and peaceful place steeped in ancient history. Dating back to the 700's, there are original Romanesque wall paintings to view ( for 50 cents) and a beautiful church. This is where the Von Trapps really got married. The views of the city below are also beautiful from this vantage point.

To get to the Convent, head towards the funicular station for the fortress and keep walking up the hill to the top. It is well worth the walk. There are lovely views all across Salzburg along the walk and when you reach the top. You turn into the little courtyard and it's genuinely feels peaceful and cooler as this was... More

Sound of Music fans will know this as Maria's abbey and it is indeed the actual abbey from the movie and for the real life Maria Von Trapp. It sits above the tourist crowds of Salzburg with views of the quieter side of Salzburg. Unlike the tourist crowds at the Dom, take a moment to sit in the stillness and... More

If you want to pause and reflect, go and sit in this wonderful place. If you're lucky you'll be alone and have the chance to enjoy the cool and the depth of the silence. If you're even luckier you'll arrive when the nuns are singing from behind the screen up on the balcony. The fact they it was at the... More

This was a very special and humbling place to visit. We visited on our 30th wedding anniversary. Tip - for 50cents you can light up the altar, very moving.

We took the arduous climb up from the town to the Mönchsberg with the intention of strolling around the hill, and on reaching the summit noticed a sign to the convent. On arrival at the convent we found a dark and eery place that was totally silent with not another soul in sight. We were only able to visit the... More

This Benedictine Convent is the oldest nunnery in the German speaking areas. It consists of a church & the convent which is visible from all the sides in the city. Some of my friends were very keen to follow the film `Sound Of Music` but were disappointed when we were not allowed to enter. But one can recollect some of the shots of... The Nonnberg Convent Chapel is a delightfully dark, quiet and restful place for a meditative moment. Sit and take it all in.
