The Franziskaner Church is in the same neighbourhood as the Dome and the buildings surrounding it. At least I prefer this church to the Dome - it has fewer visitors and feels more "genuine" than the Dome being the general show piece. If you want a feel for the Franciskans, a not overwhelming taste of a baroque church and some... More

A beautiful church, simple in some parts with amazing tall, slender, unadorned columns and then a very ornate gilded high altar. The ceiling is beautiful; some of the side chapels are riotously decorated. There is a peaceful atmosphere here. Well worth visiting.

it is 16th century gothic church. It very huge and impressive inside but also quite humble. old town area there are nice and huge churches this is one of them. Classically huge walls, nice paintings and sculptures inside. If you are lucky, you can encounter while somebody is playing organ.

I decided to extend my business trip for 1 day just to visit this church. And i didn't regret my decision. The interior is big and spacious with beautiful ceiling. It feels grand and yet humble at the same time. Lack of ornament and colourful pictures on the walls made the altar looks even more beautiful, a stark contrast to... More

This Franciscan church was built in the 16th century. Very beautiful and graceful. The acoustics are excellent for music, but not so much for speaking. We enjoyed a free Christian concert during the month long celebration of music honoring Mozart in Salzburg. The concert reminded us of the great love of God for mankind in spite of our monumental shortcomings.

Every square in Salzburg seems to have an imposing church. This one is different: gothic spirituality rathe than baroque splendour. Delicate slender columns give a sense of serenity as they draw the eye upward. Quiet too - not many tourists inside when I was there.

We went into the church just to look around the beautiful interior, but were pleasantly surprised to find two ladies playing on the organ and a flute, rehearsing for an evening concert. The music added to the calm and tranquility of the building. I am always amazed at the ornate nature of European churches, and this one does not fail... More

The celing above the altar area is very unusual and well worth a visit. My favourite of the three churches clustered around the dom square.

A good deal of the Franciscan Church is an anomaly. No paintings adorn any part of the spacious nave. The upper half of the sanctuary is completely bare stone. There are huge unstained, segmented gothic arches on either side of the aisle. On the bottom of the stone column to the right of the altarpiece is a discolored, faintly visible... More
