This place like all other museums has the usual weapons, armours, currencies and quite a few torturing instruments. But there are some interesting parts which are architecturally cool. However the highlight is the room with Iron Soldiers wearing the iron masks and armours. You would be pleasantly surprised to know such a rich piece of history while coming out.

Wow - this photo doesn't quite do this part of the Burgmuseum, it was really impressive. We didn't have huge amounts of time but we're glad we did spend some time wandering around because it was well laid out win interesting artefacts.

The museum is not free of charge but worth paying. The exhibition displays the history. There are many remains like wall of a Roman fort, weapons, Armour suites, coins and instruments of torture. Overall a good pace for a museum enthusiastic.

fascinating displays .. mostly weapons from the middle ages .. lots of spears, cannons...etc. even if you arent interested in that period in history, its still worth some time. the architecture is great (cool ceilings and doors), creative displays and some parts are just plain cool.

Personally, I was blown away by the Burgmuseum. Located at the heart of the Fortress, it takes you on a wonderful trip through Salzburg (and Austria's) colourful history. Some of the busts, wall paintings and artefacts on display (in particular those of the World Wars) are very impressive. The large room with the iron soldiers is a particular highlight and... More

I believe that almost no one goes to visit this museum as a final goal. Everyone goes to the Castle and, once there, they visit the museum. But I also believe that most people, like myself, stays genuinely surprised by this small but well arranged museum. Showing weapons mainly from Middle Ages to the XX Century, has the creativity of... As per previous review the Iron Soldier were great. I loved the cupboard made from "recycled" rifles and bayonets. I am guessing this would classified as "Trench Art" I would have liked to know it's history....

The museum in fortress Hohensalzburg is not free of charge but it is worhwhile yo visit. My personal favorite were the "iron soldiers". Restored rooms of the fortress’s Hoher Stock (upper floor). The exhibition displays the history of the fortress and daily life in a castle. Remains of a wall of a Roman fort, Romanesque arcades, weapons and suits of armour,... More
