Lovely to spend time wandering around the stalls, drinking some 'prosecco punsch' and having some traditional food. Great atmosphere and lovely decorated.
I have been to many Christmas markets in Europe but this is my favourite! It has a superb central location at the foot of Salzburg fortress and around the Cathedral. All the area was lit up and beautifully decorated. The stalls were offering Gluhwein, beer, Christmas delicacies and other snacks. Lots of European Christmas baubles and trinkets. The atmosphere was... More
Great maker, lots of hand crafted goodies ( especially the hand made Christmas tree decorations ). This market does not suffer from an excess of Gluhwein stalls or too many drunken revelers. It was a pleasure to be there with my family. The food on offer was tasty. You must try the apple rings in sweetened batter, just delicious! There... More
Fantastic. Being Australian I was just happy it was snowing on Christmas Eve but WOW, this was without a doubt a high point in our vacation. The atmosphere was superb, the people friendly and the hot apple strudel the icing on the cake so to speak. Salzburg is a beautiful city any time of year but the markets really added... More
Wowwww, what an experience. The xams market at Salzburg was buzzing last wekend. The market itself is all over the city and centred inthe old town. The courtyards and alleeways are full of light, goods and people. You can buy just about anything christmasy with hand made crafts and things to hang onthe tree. There's food available and of course... More
We really enjoyed our visit, especially the handmade hot chocolate. All the little treats were very tasty. I was a little disappointed that the goods for sale weren't a whole lot different than any of the other markets but it was a really lovely experience and a great atmosphere with the Christmas lights, Carolers and horse drawn carriages. Loved it!
There is so much to see in Salzburg, especially if you are like us and LOVE the Sound of Music. The city itself is picturesque but during the time of the Christkindlmarkt it is so amazing. The lights, food, and of course the shopping! :) Its lovely and worth the cold weather! Its right down by the Dom, and just... More
Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace and childhood home, and home to the "Sound of Music" has many fine Christmas Markets to enjoy. The largest spans the Dom (Cathederal) Platz and the Residenz Platz in the heart of town. Others are located at Mirabellplatz and at the Festung Hohensalzburg ( the fortress that rises above the city). All offer crafts, goodies, Christmas ornaments... More
We were there in March and got to enjoy the Easter decorations ans theme. Bushes and shrubs were dressed up as Easter eggs... lots of people in costume. This place a had a true old world "fair" feel. There were many handmade items you could purchase. Beautiful handmade ornaments... I particularly enjoyed sampling the different foods It was VERY crowded.... More
Enjoyed the markets in 2010. Nice Christmas stalls that include food and crafts. Be sure to buy some glüwein (mulled wine) from a vendor. Pay a few euros. Usually €5-6 and get €2 back when you return the mug. Decide to keep the mug as a souvenir? That's fine too. Hope this helps!
