While in Salzburg, we thought that a Mozart concert at the fortress would be a great treat. And it was. It was a string quartet with very talented young musicians. It was held in the royal state rooms, and the 500 year old room added to the experience. However, we purchased the combo dinner and concert package and we were... more

This was well worth a trip. You go to the fortress via the finucular train, which runs every ten minutes. You get some lovely views of Salzburg from a number of views as you move around the fortress. We were lukcy where we where thete that it was a suny day with blue skies and were able to take some... more

i found the fortress to be slightly overrrated, but if you have a salzburg card, it is definately worth a look. it take no more than an hours to look through a few rooms they have and if you have time go up the observation tower. the fortress is magnificent from the town of salzburg and offers a great view... more

THe castle is a bit expensive (but with the Salzburg Card is free including the funicular). From the outside it's really wonderful and it really dominates the Salzburg's skyline. But the inside is a bit empty. Many rooms are almost empty and the audio guide (the only way to visit it) is really boring in certain rooms filled just by... more

"Salzburg" means "salt castle," and the looming castle above the city is what the name refers to. The ancient structure goes back to medieval days when having salt meant being able to preserve food, and thus outlast a siege. Today, the castle is a much restored museum, but you still should not miss it. Take the funicular from the city... more

The dominating fortress offers a fascinating tour with electronic-audio guide. The tour is not self-paced as you are lead through as a group and sometimes the rooms get a bit hard to see what your electronic audio guide is saying. You can pause it but then the lead guide might say, "We need to move on." Still very worth the... more

It was actually pretty cool. A bit expensive, they charge you 7.50 euro a person just to walk up the steep footpath. Most of the neat siderooms were locked so you couldnt even go in them, but the views are definitely worth it from the top. Make sure you go on the audio 'guided' tour to get the best view... more

The fortress dominates the Salzburg skyline, you can’t miss it! We walked up the hill to the fortress and probably spent about 4 hours up there wandering around. It cost us €7 each to get in, that included some audio-guide tours and a ride down on the funicular. I would advise however, to maybe get the funicular on the way... more

Hohensalzburg is one of the most beautiful castles I saw in my life. It is the biggest in size in Europe, and dominates a magnificent city. On its site - http://www.hohensalzburgcastle.com there are photos that show the castle from different angles. It is very different from the classical UK castles, it has a sense of personality. more
