It is already part of the old town, which is lovely. There are a lot of restaurants, cafés on the square, you ca choose from them depending what you want. You can also just sit and watch the people who are walking around. The small mini-bus starts from herre.

The tourist bureau here is very helpful. Also there are several restaurants and gelato places that are great places to relax after a busy day. This is also where you catch the Postlingbergbahn and the City tour bus. It is close to the river and the art museum.

We were in Linz to catch the midnight train to Venice. Arriving in Linz around 2PM, the main square was a perfect place to hang out. There are a number or restaurants and small stores along the square. The main street between the train station and the square appears to be the main shopping district. There is a tram serving... The traditional Christmas market (Christkindlmarkt), the mild snow that was falling, the nearness of the Danube and the fact that both the cafes (indoors) and churches were open and the trams running on time and up until later than I had thought made for a personally enjoyable and unique experience. I'm sure itmust be delightful in summer (and when thesun... More

The old town has a very pleasant main square near the Danube. It gained notoriety because it was once renamed Adolf Hitler Platz, that dictator having come from this city. The tram runs through the middle of the square and there is a monument plus cafes and shops close by.

Linz's main square has had a number of names over the years. Previously it was the Adolf Hitler Platz and before that the Square of the 1934 Revolution and prior to that the Franz Josef Platz.. In the Hitler period the plague pillar was moved so that the tram could run in a straight line through the square.with the building... More

Charming town square. I've previously visited in late April and the flowers, festivals, and markets are quite enjoyable.

This is located on the old city side of the river and is like many others in Europe. The tram to the top of the hill (as well as others) goes from here every 30 minutes and there are restaurants and retail outlets bordering the area. There is a monument in the centre but that's about it. Travelers will probably... More

It was in this square, on the balcony of the Ates Rathaus, where Adolf Hitler made his famous speech declaring the Greater German Reich. The date was 12th May 1938. Adolf Hitler regarded Linz as his home town. Indeed he lived for some years on the third floor of 31 Humboldtstrasse, just a short walk away. Some of his family... More
