Not spectacular place and susprisingly only few restaurants there. Right off the Donau river and then main bridge this is also the end point of the shopping street.

Walked through this area while exploring Linz. It was a Saturday so there were a lot of other vendors who pitched tents and were selling wares.

Walking distance to the museums, pick up the tram to Postlingberg, get some gelato, or hang out at the cafes and people watch. There was a brass band playing when we stopped by that we stopped to watch.

This really is the heart of Linz and the start of any walking tour. The Trinity column is very impressive and looks great against the blue skies we had. There is lots going on here and there are a number of cafes to choose to have drinks/eat at.

Hauptplatz is actually not very open - stools and kiosk are almost everywhere. The Trinity Column is great, personnel at Information Centre is responsive. The local gifts market not very impressive - lots of "cheap" staff offered there.

Our favourite part of the city, easy access from the Wolfinger Hotel, lovely Saturday flea market, and wonderful place to "people watch" at any time of day / evening from the restaurants and bars.

It certainly is a bustling center with lots of shops and many people, including a great number of visitors. Shop-owners on the Hauptplatz seemed all very self-absorbed and not willing to come forward with advice or information, while I found the opposite in other parts of the city. The size and overall impression of the Hauptplatz is good and impressive,... More

This is a surprisingly large main square considering that it was laid out like this in the 13th century. It's nice but not especially noteworthy. There are many cafes around the square (many serving gelato!) which makes this a nice place to relax. Tramlines 1, 2 and 3 all stop here on the way from the main station. The Postlingbergbahn... It is already part of the old town, which is lovely. There are a lot of restaurants, cafés on the square, you ca choose from them depending what you want. You can also just sit and watch the people who are walking around. The small mini-bus starts from herre.
